    Thank you for your expert advice! I was having trouble finding the best way to repair my ceiling after I had water damage. It was a patch about 3'X1' with about 1/8" thick layer that I had to fill. I scraped it, primed it with GARDZ Problem Surface Sealer, and plastered it with RAPID SET One Pass Wall repair Muf 90 Minutes, just like you showed in your video. To get it perfectly smooth and even without any lines it took me a few passes, but I got the hang of it. I am happy I had 90 minutes as I needed it to learn how to do it right. Those extra minutes made the difference between getting it right and getting it very wrong! I purchased the long applicator and I am glad I did as it cleared the area I wanted smoothly and without lines. Thank you again, you saved me lots of time and $. PS You make it look easy, but to this novice, it was hard work! Frances

    What if you are not sure where leak is coming from? My kitchen ceiling leaks but only if its a crazy storm not sure where its getting in at. I had the people that did my roof - come back out and check it but they said its fine and they were unsure where water is coming from. Its a flat rubber roof. It doesn't leak for long maybe drips for like 10 minutes then stops. I think its coming in from somewhere out and going down inside above the ceiling. I was trying to avoid having someone come out and cut part of ceiling out to see.

    Hi! Thank you for your video, it was very thorough. Our 2nd floor sink bursted and leaked for about 3 minutes, and the water came down our kitchen ceiling. We have some water stains on the ceiling and now we can see some of the drywall tape showing and there are some indentations were the nails were (they look the opposite of a nail pop, they are "popping in" instead of out) The drywall does not feel loose or seems like it's sagging, except for the indentations. I would like to paint but I am not sure if this a matter of reinforcing the drywall with more screws like you did or if it would be better to have the drywall replaced. In other words, I am wondering if this is a simple repair that I could handle or if it's better to call a professional. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

    Hello, what I look for in this situation is did the ceiling sag or bow at all? And when you see the nails showing the indent, it usually means you need to put more screws in and reinforce it and then recoat the nails & the joint tape thats showing. It was something very similar. I threw up 12 times the first day, had a high fever and shaking, chills and such, but not chest issues. They tested for everything and found nothing so said it was a virus. Last test was the covid test and it came back negative, but they said I may still have had a variant, or it could have been a false negative. After going home it came back a couple weeks later but not so bad. No idea for sure, but I'm feeling quite a bit better now. Did you see my videos on popcorn ceiling removal? If you come across torn brown paper, be sure and watch that video too. And thanks for the comment!

    For mold to start it has to stay wet for days and ours dried out overnight so I wasn’t worried about it. If you think it stayed wet that long, usually the sheet rock will disintegrate and that will be a clue. If the sheet rock is sound it’s unlikely there is mold.

    QUESTIONS: how long (if ever) will moisture evaporate from the space above the ceiling? if the ceiling is merely discolored from water damage can it just be repainted? will running a dehumidifier in the room with the damage ceiling make a real difference in drying ceiling damage and the space above it?

    This was a rental I fixed for free so I wasn’t going to much effort. The crappy repair had been done well before we moved in but normally once it’s thoroughly dry any mold growth stops. And that’s the important part. I have found small amounts of mold inside of thousands of walls but if the moisture is gone the mold stops and it’s not a threat. We are in a low humidity area though

    Hey there, I live off-grid in a climate that experiences 90%+ humidity during July and part of August. Almost all of the drywall tape in our 30-year-old home is not only peeling away from the wall but it’s literally sagging inches away from the wall. It’s a nightmare. I’m going to attempt the repairs one room at a time but due to the humidity, I’m stuck choosing between mesh, paper, or fibatape. I plan on doing the repair in September when the humidity drops under 30% but as far as the longevity of the new job is concerned, I’m worried it will pop off again next July - or fail within a few years. As I said, we’re off-grid so running dehumidifiers/fans isn’t an option. Any tape suggestions on tapes that can withstand the extreme moisture we see in summer? Thanks!!

  • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY

    @ThatKiltedGuyDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    I would use fibafuse, and regular all purpose joint compound. You could add a couple tablespoons of glue to the mix, or even go looking for taping mud at the drywall supply company which may have a little more glue in it. And be sure to use a quality primer and two coats of high-quality paint that is eggshell or shinier as it resists moisture more. How to do it right, well thats debatable becuse for every job there are at least 5 ways give or take to go about it, so its more a how to do it like you would, not saying your way is bad, or right its the way you learned and works for you. But there are other ways to do it and get similar results. This is not a cut down by any means you do very good work, I cant say I always agree we all have out own ways to do things and its a good idea to look at sevral differnt ways to find what works best for you.

    I have a cracked vaulted ceiling with a knockdown texture. The crack appears to be parallel to the joist. On one side of the crack I can anchor with drywall screws. On the other side of the crack there appears to be nothing to anchor a drywall screw to. How do I stabilize the crack before the repair? Should I cut out the tape and re-tape the crack? The crack is perfectly straight, so I think it is at a seam.

    @@criscowley9456 4' indicates it's a butt joint, and often one side will barely be on the stud. Usually, if you really push the screw to the edge and tilt it slightly, using longer, like 1 5/8-2" screws, you'll hit the stud. But here's what you can do. Cut a gap between the 2 sheets, about 1/8" wide, staying more on the side you could screw easily. Then fill it with some hot mud, but add about a tablespoon of wood glue to a 1/2 a pan, and fill it really well. Then re-tape it with more hot mud and that will help. But the best way would be to climb into the attic and add a scab board alongside the joist, attaching it to the joist with screws (pre-drill and install the screws in the backer piece) and then re-screw the ceiling in that area, re-tape and finish.

    The crack is a little over three feet long. It is the widest where the ceiling meets an outside wall and tapers to nothing as at votes towards the peak of the vaulted ceiling.

    @@ThatKiltedGuyDIY there is only about 18 inches between the roof and the ceiling and it is filled with blown insulation. No room to get in there.

    I’ve got a better idea for you. When you have that little tiny bit left over, throw it on something by your tools, and when that sets up you’re good. That’s how I do it anyway.

    I think novices should avoid using 5 minutes quickset, 90 minutes on mesh tape is good for homeowners. Good video 👌

    I totally agree. I think 45 is ok for small batches though. l also think a timer is a good idea to keep from getting bit in the butt as it starts setting up.
