#1 tutorial on KZread on how to fix a leaky Kohler bath spout. Explained with knowledge and confidence with simple and precise video to match. The pressure balancing unit in the repair kit looked different than original but thanks to “Dad” I was able to reference video and determine it was okay. Thank you “Dad”!

Good video. It helped me replace the cartridge & the mixing cap for my shower. My mixing cap took a lot of effort to pull out. This video and another I watched didn't mention this being a possible problem. I turn the valve on and this may have released some of the vacuum, but still too a lot of effort to pull out.

Great video! Unfortunately, my retainer (the white plastic piece) is a different style than in the video (mine is part 1006026) and is and is very snug on the black valve. I've read one person claim they were able to pull it off with a lot of pressure (suggestion was to reattach the handle to help pull it off evenly). Another person said they were unable to and had to order the replacement part (it is around $10 so not too expensive at least). Just wanted to share in case others have the same frustration as I had around this different white plastic retainer. I've ordered a replacement retainer to put on my new value rather than try to use too much force to get the old one off.

I had the same trouble with the white plastic piece. I removed the handle and cover plate , removed the two screws holding the plastic piece in place then reattached the handle. I didn’t use the handle to pull the plastic piece. Instead rotated the retainer onto the threads of the plastic piece until it finally popped off the mixer valve body. I hope this helps someone.

Is there a way to be sure this is the right part? It looks like the value on my bathtub/shower but I'm not sure because I don't have the original installation manual. The house was built in 2008 so it would have been new then. It was also built without a separate shutoff value from the rest of the house so if I mess up then we have no water in the house until I can get someone out for an emergency repair. Still, it looks like something I could do if I was sure it was the right part.

Just did this repair, but it still has a slow drip. They gave me very little grease, though. If I didn't apply it as thoroughly as in this video, could that be the source of the slow drip? Doesn't seem likely to me, but, I'm not much of a plumber. Great video though, anyway.
