Although I used the old balancer model in this video, please make sure you get the updated balancer, amzn.to/2YG6kCl, or the leak might come back. The kit with the updated mixer and balancer is also available, amzn.to/3dEsklf. It's also very important to lub the O rings. If you don't lub the O there;s a greater change for a leak again especially with the older balancer. You will need a Waterproof Silicone Faucet Grease, amzn.to/3cMb6Tx. The kit will come with a little grease capsule. Note that it's my opinion that kholer has had a lot of issues with the old balancer, GP500520. I originally used it in this video and then replaced with the new model, amzn.to/2YG6kCl,, after the leak returned. The instruction in this video remain the same for the new parts. After the leak returned on the new install I used the metal O collar on top of the mixer's metal bracket, but this might be optional. Also be careful with the the longer screws as they can get stripped and caught on the metal bracket attached to the mixer. You can take a drill and widen the smaller holes a bit to make sure this doesn't happen. Amazon 30 day FREE Trial - amzn.to/2ItA9Ar

Hello! I just wanted to make sure that this was for a leaking shower head? You never show the shower head so I just wanted to make sure. We have a drip drip from our kohler shower head and I thought maybe the shower head was the problem.
Thanks buddy, you saved me $400

Thank you for the video. I was able to fix my leaky shower without a single issue. Kohler even sent me a replacement for all the parts I needed. Much appreciated 👏👏
This was the only video of a dozen I watched that addressed the plate issue at the end. He’s right - use the plate and not the ring. Everything worked out. Thank you.

Just a note on the metal plate, old one is not threaded for trim plate. Trim has two sets of threads to hit if you use the new one. This can mess up the threads on trim screws. Thank you for this video!
Perfect. Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
This is a really helpful video tutorial. Thank you so much for doing this. I was able to do this without a hitch. I would never have had the courage to tackle a plumbing task like this without your instructions.

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I bought the parts at a plumbing supply store but the instructions were confusing. Also, there was a metal ring that was in the original part. I was having trouble getting it screwed back in. You correctly pointed out that the new metal bracket replaced that part. HUGE help. 👊

This is why I love love love kohler and pfister valves they are held with 4 screws and easy to pull out unlike the delta one where the bonnet nut could get stuck.

Too bad they sell 2 kits and the old one has an issue that was redesigned and replaced by the new kit but Koehler sit sells the old kit that has issues. See description for parts numbers.

Thank you for sharing this video. I believe I have the same model but a different trim. I received a replacement combo mixer kit from Kohler this week and hope to be able to replace it like you showed here. I'm not that handy but I'll try. Thanks again

Thank you!
My kohler k304 mixing valve got some weird symptoms. I don't notice the shower head constantly dripping, but I do notice a water leak creeping under the adjacent drywall, when I run the shower lately. Thought it was the shower pan (fiberglass developed a crack, I resealed it and eliminated that variable). The temperature control has had a mind of its own, for months though. Sometimes id have to really crank the valve almost 90% to command hot water delivery, then step it back to 50%, then the temp would finally acclimate to what I like (how it ran as a new installation!) Used to command 50% off the bat, and water temp was great. So, between these two issues, I am hoping the two parts in your video, get me on track. I have a bulk o-ring kit and plenty of silicone lube (auto tech by trade).
Thank you so much for saving me a lot of $$$$ and time.

Good video. QUESTION: are the retainer screws holding the mixer to the valve SS? If no u could have a magnetic driver to help avoid losing small screws in wall.
Thanks ! great vid and great help, I appreciate it !! had a hard time re-inserting the long screws, I thought i was crossthreding them , but it went well.....not leaking anymore

If you overtightened they can break, it's a pain to remove
I got a question I have two springs and two washers I have no clue where the go to this I took my old one out similar to the one in your video here but my shower keeps running on full when I turn my water on but the knob doesn’t cut the shower off or anything ?
Great video.. I have replaced all the parts inside as the shower head was leaking and had some water temp mixing issues... However the shower head still has a very slow drip.. maybe 1 every few minutes. I have not used this shower since I replaced. Any ideas?? Maybe something not set right with o rings or something else not perfectly lined up.. or something with the brass body itself?? thx

What you think it could be happening.. dont thing it could be, but i did not lube the orings could that be?? You think if balancer is bad its going to keep leaking on the faucet?? Even if the vaulve is new??? Thanks🙏

Get the new parts, see description, also make sure you use silicone and lib up the o rings. Make sure balancer is snug and kined up against the holes on the valve, don't overtighten. Most important make sure you are using the newest updated parts, Koehler so some reason will not pull old faulty design from stores etc.

spray some lubricant to make it slide easier, use needle nose pliers etc.

Hi thanks for the great video. I know nothing about plumbing and I have a question. Does this fix the leak for the shower head as well or just the shower faucet?
@daP.A
Жыл бұрын
Most likely yes, unless your shower pull is not working then it could be the diverter but if you just have a leak at the faucet a d shower then this will fix both. If the shower lever/pull is set to the faucet there should not be a leak at the faucet. Look at this video to see if its shower pull issue, kzread.info/dash/bejne/pGFmw9Stfpa-abg.html
I removed the collar and also the screws on the mixer but cannot pull out the mixer...it is stuck hard. Afraid I am going to break something. it looked so easy when you did it.
@daP.A

it should come out easy, wiggle it. it does happen that overtime its stuck. if all the screws are out, use force to pull it out. It will come out. Note that mine came out easy because I was messing it before the video, so it was lose already.
This is an excellent video. I was excited to do the repair but I am unable to remove the handle. I simply cannot get it unscrewed. I’ve tried a strap wrench, and my Knipex channel lock pliers with some rubber on the jaws to protect the finish. The shower I am working on has the Kohler Finial Traditional trim, K-T313. There are no set screws or other fasteners holding the handle in place. Part of the difficulty is that the handle base is cone-shaped with a fairly acute angle, so it is difficult to get a grip on it. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate the help.
@daP.A

The handle should unscrew if there is no set screw. The ha dole might be holding the trim in place. Take a picture underneath to make sure there is no set screw
@j31355a
Жыл бұрын
@@daP.A I agree that it should unscrew, and the handle is surely holding the trim in place. There is definitely no set screw. It is similar in design to the one in your video only mine handle base is more acutely tapered and thus getting any decent purchase and torque with a strap wrench or a padded pair of pliers pretty ineffective. BTW, thanks for the quick reply.
There are shut off valved inside the wall on the sides of the valve. See the openings on the sides of the bracket? Whoever cut the marble didnt leave enough room to access the valves. A proper marble installation will allow access to the valves

Are kohler balancers and mixers same on all kohler models ?
@daP.A

No, it depends on the shower valve you have. You need to know the shower valve or trim and order to figure out the right parts, however most balancers/mixers work with rite temp valves which is the most common shower valve.

Make sure is installed correctly, no backwards, there no obstructions etc. Watch the video and reinstall slowly and make sure mixer and balancer at the correct ones for your particular shower valve. You can also call Kohler for help. Please post your outcome and share with everyone what the issue was so we can all learn from it.

@@daP.A Turns out that I had a blockage in the handshower itself. We had already noticed low flow beforehand. Now after installing the balancer and mixer nothing came out. Disconnected the shower hose and voila, water came out. So I need to clean out or replace the shower hose. It has a little mesh filter that seems corroded and hinders the water throughput.
