How to rent a Tuktuk in Srilanka 🇱🇰

How to Rent a Tuktuk in Srilanka 🛺 @tuktukrentals
Hey Guys, So you all know we recently visited Srilanka for 10 days and explored this island country by renting a tuktuk rather than self-driving or renting a private cab and it was absolutely worth it.
🔸So you'll must be thinking why a Tuktuk?
There are many reasons, firstly, We wanted to explore the island country in the local way and secondly, a small way from our side to help the local community especially post the economic crisis of 2022.
🔸How did we rent a tuktuk?
There are many tuktuk rental providers in Srilanka but the one that stands out is Tuktukrentals. We did the entire process online while we were in India and it was an easy process from booking the tuktuk to insurance to temporary Srilankan Drivers permit. Everything has been taken care of by the staff and it's a hassle-free process.
There is an onboarding process of around 2 hrs which includes a detailed briefing like dos and don'ts, and then instructor led training to get you comfortable driving the Tuktuk on the Lankan roads. It's not as difficult as it looks. If you know how to drive a 4 wheeler you can easily get the hang of it. Curly got the hang of it in like barely 10 mins.
🔸How much does it cost per day?
So the cost per day of renting the regular tuktuk starts 14 USD per day which includes your insurance as well. Also it will cost you 40 USD for your temporary Srilankan Driving Licence which is valid for one year.
🔸What are the pros of driving the Tuktuk?
- Riding in a tuktuk is definitely a crazy adventure and the best part abt riding a Tuktuk is the freedom to stop anywhere anytime as per your wish.
- Secondly, you also save a lot on the private cab/tuktuk charges which are way higher.
- Third, you can load all your luggage in the back without any hassle and drive carefree. We had around one 90 litres haversack and checkin trolley bag along with 2 backpacks which all fitted at the back.
- Fourth, you get to refuel the tank completely as there are no fuel restrictions for tourists.
If you're a group of 3-4, you can easily opt for this option and enjoy the ride.
🔸What are the cons of renting a Tuktuk:
There are not many cons per say but yes the speed limit of Tuktuk is max 40 km per hour so it may get a little frustrating at times and you will need to consider those additional hours especially when you're doing longer distances.
🔸What other facilities do you get while renting a tuktuk?
There are many amenities which you can opt for while renting a tuktuk such as Bluetooth music speaker, baby seat, seatbelts, surfboard roof racks, train transfer service (if you're taking the Kandy to Ella train) all for additional charges.
🔸Is it worth renting a Tuktuk?
If you want an unique adventure and also do a little bit for the local community, we suggest renting a Tuktuk and exploring this beautiful Island country
