Sigiriya is not just about the rock. You have to explore the whole palace complex it's a vast areas of wonders if you have a look around. It’s an engineering marvel

Sigiriya is much more complex than it first looks. The first time i climbed it was 52 years ago. I was fascinated by the graffiti written by those who climbed it 1300 years ago. I think the Rock was worked on over 2500 years ago

This is very common misunderstanding people have (assuming that Sigirya is just about a rock). Due to this misunderstanding, people think they are climbing a rock for 30 dollars. Some people are disappointed about the price for this reason, so to have the "climbing" experience, they climb Pidurangala close to Sigiriya. If a person looks for climbing experience, non of these rocks are the best. You can climb any mountain in middle of the country for free of charge. Even walking from Colombo to Kandy will be a climbing experience. I think there should be a small movie theater in the museum (in the Sigiriya complex), and show 20 min educational movie about the complex, its engineering, and history. This way people will learn about ancient builders. I've seen this type of demonstrations done in USA to educate people about the native American sites.

I am a regular traveller to Sri Lanka love that island and smiling people, and super cheap affordable for low income foreigners , Is Sigiriya worth $60, it's ok with me but for love of people of Sri lanka and help the economy to boost tourism (most tourist are middle income or young adults 25 to 30 mostly limited amount cash) the Authority should Charge double the amount of local in rupees, ( out of a million tourist how many visit sigiriya and other high price places ) if cheap like local more mouth to mouth advertisement will bring more tourist help other sector hostel rooming street food etc more foreign exchange , or ( they should charge the visa fee double or triple to cover this charge) physiologically tourist want feel it, it will bring more tourist to your country THIS IS A COUNTRY TO VISIT ONCE IN LIFE TIME FOR TRAVELLER OR TOURIST WHY? IT"S AN ISLAND, GOOD BEACHES SAFE FOR FAMILY, (NO SEX TOURISM VERY CULTURED RESPECTED PEOPLE) WILD LIFE BIRD SANUARYNATURE 2000 YEARS HISTORY, (IT'S FULL PACKAGE COUNTRY) next week going back to wonderful Sri Lanka

Fun fact, the king who built sigiriya had built clay pipes that brought water from the ground and stored it on top of the rocks in tanks

But that's not true. According to archeologists that pipes are used for creating water flowers on ground. Water wasn't brought to top of the rock. Ponds were filled by rain water.

No! Sigiriya water fountains work with the water pressure and the gravitational force of the planet earth. So that was a simple design to implement but the creators have done a miracle here. Those builders used underline pipe system to produce the water pressure. So they built this system from highland to low land to get the high water flowing speed using the earth’s gravity. Firstly, they made the Sigiriya tank and then used it as the primary water resource of the King. Secondly, they used that water to fill the inner moat and the outer moat. Then they made a canal to get the water to the moat which lies around the summer palace. Finally, they made a canal system to flow the water through the water garden from that moat.​@@mrbhanaka-3856

In sri lanka, green coconut is used for cooking(extract coconut milk to put in curries). but orange coconut which is called king coconut is only used for drinking. u can drink the green coconut water too but king coconut is lot sweeter and refreshing. Pro tip - Put a king coconut in a fridge for atleast a day and try it. Places that sell them like that are rare but u can do it on your homestay.

Actually according to the archeological findings the entire area around sigiriya rock was a small wel designed city built in between 473-495. Still there are evidences of network of underground water network for fountains, plunge pools etc. Sigriya rock it self is believed to be King’s private quarters with multiple artefacts, water gardens, flower gardens etc with a roof to withstand monsoon winds. There are believes of underground escalator system to get on to the rock which hasn’t been discovered yet.

In my mind, charging $55 to see Sigiriya is nothing. This was built on 6th Century. The amount of things you could find around Sigiriya is immense ..also irrigation tech used to pump water those fountains is priceless.Water filtering mechanisms used in those toilets are amazing.When you put efferts of understanding subject matter,price goes away. Your normal breakfast in your country would cost you more than this

That’s true, but we’re on a budget trip, we have been backpacking for months, so it is a little out of budget, most backpackers have the same budget to 😃 but if we were here for a two week vacation this cost would be no problem! Most people on our channel know this is a backpacker channel!🙂 but for anyone new it’s in the bio 🙂
