There is no specified torque from shimano, you would need to use a generic chart depending on the size of the screw.bolt.

Hi there really would love to know how much roughly shimano would charge to rebuild the motor ? Or how much would a new one set you back? I have a focus jam 2 & love it so honestly dreading this day as I saved every penny to buy one second hand so wouldn’t have any warranty & tbh have it derestricted Would love to know cheers

  • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic

Hi David, thanks for watching.. What would happen if your motor developed a fault or became noisy. We would look at your motor to assess the problem. If it’s become really noisy we can rebuild it for you at a cost off £265.00 plus postage, if it’s not repairable we would send it to Shimano and ask for a cost to replace, the full replacement cost of a new motor is approx £900.00. To avoid this cost it’s best to have the motor rebuild as soon as the motor becomes noisy, hope that helps.

Hi Dave, great video! I was amazed how easily you removed the lockring on the chainwheel, as they're supposed to be done up to 40Nm. I changed mine (factory fitted) recently, and had to hang on to the left hand pedal and then use a tremendous effort to undo it. Its odd that the Shimano tool, unlike the Park tool, doesn't have a hex fitting, is there a special "crows foot" to go onto a torque wrench for tightening? I wonder what the mileage was on that motor, and how you rate them for reliability, against the Bosch? Cheers....Pete
