A Run-Through of How To Remove Your Volkswagen Transporter Steering Wheel. Great For Steering Wheel & Cruise Upgrades.
A great video that was requested by one of our customers. They wanted to know how to remove a Steering Wheel so they could fit their newly purchased one!
We go over from Start to finish on how to remove your existing wheel ready for you to fit your new steering wheel or even to be able to start the process of upgrading to Cruise Control.
Even though we've filmed this for a VW Transporter T5, the process is the same for the Caravelle and California and in some instances the T6!

Are the T5 and T5.1 interchangeable?

Do you mean by fitting a T5.1 Wheel into a T5? It's possible depending on the BCM And you will need quite a large wiring loom and relay for it to work properly.
So you really don't need to disconnect the battery?? Bonkers! everywhere else i've seen or any advice i've been given on this say disconnect the battery!

I've sat in a car where the guy was fiddling with the airbag, and it went off when it was disconnected. I would highly recommend disconnecting the battery and waiting like 10 minutes.

I agree that disconnecting the battery is good practice. However top marks for a great tutorial. I just changed my steering wheel & without this I wouldn't have had a clue where to start.. Excellent 🤘

I followed this and it worked a treat, I didn’t remove the cowel, it’s pretty easy
