Search in your local area! Good chance you have an all-inclusive local workspace to rent for a few hours and a professional nearby, maybe a local farmer will be able to help you with one aswell

Thank you so much for this method. I have been working on mobile equipment for years and have often struggled with the removal of outer bearing races. This could have saved me so much time and energy. I have used this method twice in two days, and it still seems counterintuitive, but thanks again

I was slightly skeptical about this, but had literally no other options besides machining it out. Sure enough, worked like a champ.

i just did this a bit different used a washer for the inside and spot welded the washer in 6 places to contain heat as much as possible then used the washer and a brass punch to work out the race from the other end. a bit more labor with less heat. worked splendidly.

same problem with a washing machine drum bearing. But its in an aluminium sleeve in a plastic drum. I've used kroil, the big hammer and now cutting with dremmel, almost no inside lip to engage. Bloody ultrasonic welded tubs didn't help. Nice tip though for metal housings. (next day) just finished dremeling it through in two places and its out.

I've got exactly the same problem with the upper bearing on a washing machine. It's in a tough plastic housing but it feels like it's welded to steel. Have tried everything over 2 days and it still hasn't come out. Now trying to cut it with a disk on mini drill (and that's a struggle also).

As the welding cools it shrinks pulling the metal race with it and away from the housing

Damn. Wish I would have watched this about a hour ago. Ended up welding a small shaft to the race so I could knock it out with a hammer but I like this better.

Great idea but I’m not a welder, and bearing is press fit into an aluminum housing which is part of a plastic wash tub (Whirlpool washer) so welding might melt plastic tub. :(

How did you get it out? When I was hammering the shaft from the bottom it was extremely hard. After too many whacks the shaft finally gave. Problem is that the upper bearing came apart and the outer ring is stuck in the tub. I have tried prying and banging without success. Problem is that the inner diameter of the ring is larger than the access from the bottom of the machine so there is no lip to access. Help please.

I would like to know too. I am trying to get the inner bearing out of my washer drum and it is giving me the blues. It will not budge. Even the seal won't come off. I think I will try to heat the seal with a heat gun.

This is an update: Didn't take much time or effort, but did cost me. After agonizing and losing a lot of sleep about trying to get the bearing out, I used my heat gun to heat up the area around the bearing making sure not to get close to the plastic tub area. I purchased the front wheel bearing remover from Harbor Freight. It cost $120. Got an extra socket wrench with adapters that fit each edge of the bearing remover ends. I purchased a 1" ID nut and some washers (to make them thick and sturdy) off of the electrical aisle at HD. I needed this because the smallest adapter in the bearing kit was too big to fit in the rear of my drum, so I had to improvise by mimicking the plate with something smaller. I connected everything and used two socket wrenches. I held the back wrench in position with my foot (I was sitting on my kitchen floor) while I twisted the front wrench where the stubborn bearing was and kept twisting until it did not take much strength and wa la, that stubborn bearing popped out into the cup. It was like I was working on a car. I was a bit intimidated because I am a female doing this by myself in my kitchen. My washer is a Whirlpool Duet Sport. I hope this helps anyone stuck like me.

Or use a heat gun, torch or oven to heat the part up.... like... you know... the same way they were installed... 300°f -350°f they slide right out.

i dont understand, heat expands metals an therefore should they get even more stuck? I't sounds like freezing it would be more effective? can you explain how this works please!!

Google the formula I thought the same thing originaly too. There are visuals that go along with the formulas that explain it better than I ever could but basically it will expand in one direction more causing the diameter to increase. freezing works to but it has to be extremely cold I have used dry ice on couple of parts. Piston sleeves in engines are installed and removed from blocks via the oven method that was my first experience with it.

I found of someone who put it in a easy to understand way. "Every dimension will increase by the same percentage, even the diameter of the hole." Or " if the whole part is heated the diameter is INCREASED if the local heating (around the hole) is applied the diameter DECREASES.
