am not surprised they came out !!!!!!! am i the only one that noticed the carpet was firstly brand new ..but much more importantly it had so much stain guard on on the the liquids just sat on top they had to be massaged into the carpet . and not once did he mention colour fastness thats checking if spotter can be used on that type of carpet in the first place

Hi Eric, I have never tried to make or test a homemade solution for a carpet cleaning machine (like a rug doctor), so I don't want to make any suggestions without having that experience. When I ran my carpet cleaning business, I used hot water extraction with professional grade pre-spray products, and neutralizing rinsing agents. You would definitely want to stay away from ingredients that cause too much foaming, or high pH ingredients like detergents which cause re-soiling as they attract dirt if not rinsed properly from the carpet. Sorry I'm not more help with this question.

It worked really well for me. I had 2-day old avocado stains. I needed to spray and vacuum about 6 times, but it’s mostly lifted. Wanted to upload photos but I can’t see how to.

Would this work on a light colored polyester fabric sofa, without damaging it? I have a cream colored sofa with dark denim Jean dye transfer that I cannot seem to get out.

It is safe to use on fabric and upholstery. I have used it for spots on my sofa and it works great! It is a good idea to test it under one of the cushions before using it on a visible area on the sofa though. Sounds like a really tough stain you are dealing with. Synthetic dyes from clothing are designed to stick to fabrics, so I don't think this or any spotter would be able to remove it. It is possible you could lighten the darkness of the jean dye stain with this method, and maybe it is worth a try. Good luck with it. If you do try it, let me know how it goes.

Here's how to remove mascara from carpet: Dissolve a scoop of OxiClean versatile stain remover in a bucket with a gallon of hot water mix until dissolved dip a sponge in the solution sponge it generously onto the stain leave it for 10 minutes rinse with cold water and blot dry Hope was helpful please let me know how it goes☺

Would the hose of a regular bissell home vacuum do the trick if someone doesn't have a wet/dry vacuum? For the isopropyl alcohol, would getting a higher percentage one like 90% one be better than the 70% isopropyl alcohol?

Using a regular vacuum will end up damaging your vacuum. A wet/dry vacuum is required for this. No need to use a higher concentration isopropyl alcohol. The spotter is designed to have a 50% isopropyl alcohol concentration when combined with water. Going above 50% isn’t going to help or increase the effectiveness of the spotter

No, it will not work on epoxy resin. I don't know of any method that can remove hardened epoxy resin. I believe the best option would be to hire a carpet repair person to patch it.

Hi First of all thanks for the video. I accidentally dropped a makeup foundation on my new carpet. I want to remove it. I saw in amazon the same wet and dry vacuum you showed in the video but the rate is $63 not $49. I have a wet and dry car vacuum but it’s point is like a car charger. Is it possible to use that to remove the stain? If yes how do I convert that point to use at our home power point? Your help would be greatly appreciated. And also I bought a 91% isopropyl alcohol. Is that fine to use? Kindly clarify my doubts. Thank you.

91% isopropyl alcohol is okay to use on your carpet. If you don't want to buy a wet/dry vacuum, you can try using straight 91% isopropyl alcohol (no soap), and gently dab/wipe the stain with a white cloth. A benefit of the wet/dry vacuum is it is very gentle on the carpet fibers, whereas dabbing/gentle wipes with a cloth can fray the carpet fibers. You can also cut a single stained tuft out of your carpet to see if the isopropyl alcohol will actually remove the stain with a cloth (it's up to you but always a good idea to test). I don't know of any way to convert the 12V connection to a wall outlet - sorry about that.

Dear author, I need your advice. I made carpet discolouration. I’m not sure how exactly I made it while cleaning the carpet. There were problematic stains with blu tack and I tried different sprays without rinsing the previous solution. I had: 1. Distilled vinegar 2. Diluted “Pro-kleen carpet cleaner by Mylek” 3. This solution from the video above I tried to rinse it many times with water, but it didn’t help. Can I do something to fix it? Thank you for your help 🌿

Can you say more about what you mean by discoloration? Is it like as if a bleach was used, and the color from the carpet has been removed? I don't think any of the three products that you listed would cause discoloration (as described above), even it they were mixed together. It could have been caused by a few things though. As an example, if someone in your home uses acne medications with benzoyl peroxide, the benzoyl peroxide could have ended up in the carpet in that area, then one of the cleaning agents could have activated the benzoyl peroxide causing it to remove color from the carpet. This is rare but it does happen in the carpet cleaning industry.

So if I don't have a wet/dry vacuum can I just use a carpet cleaner? Just use it to suck up the water and spots?

Yes, I think that would work. First spray the stains with the spotter, then fill the carpet cleaning machine with water and use it to do a rinse.

Will this work just as well on rugs?

Yes, it will absolutely remove spots from rugs. If the rug is a multi-colored rug, you should do a color fastness test before using. The purpose of a color fastness test is to make sure the dyes do not migrate during the spot removal/cleaning process. As an example, say you have a rug that is a checkerboard design, with red and white squares. You would want to make sure that the DIY Spotter does not cause the red dyes to migrate to the white area on the carpet. To test this, I would spray a small amount of the spotter on the red area, then blot it up with a white cloth. If the red dye transfers to the white cloth, do not use this DIY Spotter on that rug. If you have a rug that fails a color fastness test, have your rug professionally cleaned. Professional carpet cleaners have chemical additives that are used to prevent dye migration while cleaning. With enough dwell time and using some agitation, I think it would work. You can also try an enzyme cleaner like BioKleen Back Out. An enzyme cleaner would help break it down making it easier to come out.

@@TheStainGuide my dog vomited (mainly bile) on what I think is synthetic carpet (I’m renting) and the carpet is closed loop style in dark grey. I used paper towel to get as much up as possible. Then used some water to try and get more. Then I spritzed with a 50:50 white vinegar and water solution that I’ve issued to great effect in the past on dog urine stains. Then I used more paper towel to blot that until I couldn’t see any of the yellow bile colour. It didn’t look too bad but I thought it couldn’t hurt to add some bicarbonate Soda to draw out any moisture trapped lower. This seemed to cause a bit of an issue. I couldn’t vacuum it when dry as successfully as I had with urine stains. There remained a bit of a brown stain. The lady that comes and cleans once a month has a wet/dry vacuum and she treated the area with a Bissel brand stain remover and the wet/dry vacuum. It’s taken almost a day to dry and now looks worse than before. The brown stain is more noticeable and now there’s also a darkening of the carpet in the surrounding area from the Bissel product. From your experience is there anything that can be done?

Okay, I believe I understand what has happened here. If you watch this video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmWI0cttZNudoLw.html) at the 1:19 mark, when I add household ammonia to the glass, it immediately darkens. This is caused by the high pH of the household ammonia. The Bissel stain remover also has a high pH, so what this tells me is that the Bissel product was not rinsed out of the carpet properly and that is why the stain appears darker. The darkening around the stain is also likely caused by the high pH of the Bissel product. To correct this, I would use water and a wet/dry vacuum to rinse as much of the Bissel product out of the carpet as possible. After rinsing a few times with water, I would rinse one more time vinegar. Vinegar has a low pH and will neutralize any remaining Bissel product. When you are done rinsing, allow the carpet to completely dry. A great way to absorb most of the moisture out the the carpet is to use a towel and apply a lot of pressure. I usually place a towel over a wet area and stand on it to absorb as much moisture as possible. This will absorb most of the moisture from the carpet, and help it much dry faster. This should make the stain lighter again. I feel like it's a different story wirh my situation though because my carpet in the basement is matted which makes it super hard for the bristles to actually work into the carpet, let alone remove a stain. We think we'll just get rid of the carpet amd lay hardword flooring down.

@@TheStainGuide So, I made a similar solution that you shared and I sprayed that and scrubbed a little with a brush and then my husband used the wet vac and it got it right up. We also used a small fine-tooth comb and gently scrubbed and the clay came up that way too. It's time-consuming but the carpet is looking much better :) Thanks for your video which helped me with getting the polymer clay stains out of my carpet.

Anytime I get a spill or spot in my carpet, I'll start with using DIY Spotter with a wet/dry vacuum, as shown in this video. I'll use this on nearly anything as a first step to try to remove it because it has a very high success rate. If DIY Spotter doesn't work, I'll use a stain removal method. Does this work on bright white carpet? Heart broken with SOMEONE walking into my bedroom with a shoe on. I tried cleaning it but now it's just a black stain, been there for atleast 6 months.

@@TheStainGuide it's not gotten worse it seemed like it just spread and dried there. I used water and bit of bleach. I think my mistake was; which I gathered from one of your other videos is, that I left it there too long and it attracted dirt. I should have soaked it with plain water after I used a wet vac. I will try any additional advice you give.

@@TheStainGuide I think I made it worse, it was a spot then it kind of spread and dried up. I'm guessing I left the cleaning detergent on there for bit too long and it attracted more dirt; probably should have used plain water and then wet vac after. I used a bit of bleach, which has worked on other patches in the past. I think I might try again. Any other advice would be appreciated.

@@Anonymous-411 It sounds like some of the problem might be caused by a detergent residue that was left in your carpet after the initial cleaning attempt. I would try rinsing the area with water in a spray bottle and a wet/dry vacuum. Try to get all of the detergent residue out first to see if that fixes the problem. I would avoid using bleach. There are generally other ways to remove nearly all spots and stains that do not risk causing color loss to your carpet. Good luck!

You need a wet/dry vacuum. Regular vacuums are not designed for liquids.

Curious if a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide would work even better. The hair developer comes as high as 12%. Thoughts?

For carpet cleaning purposes I only recommend using 6%. 6% gets the job done and I don’t like to go any stronger than what is necessary.

Hey there, I'm not sure if I totally understand the issue. Did the stain come from the liquid leaking from the cartridge? Or from the smoke? If it came from the liquid, the method in this video will probably work as the contents are oil based. You might want to use 98% isopropyl alcohol directly to remove it, as isopropyl alcohol is a degreaser.

It has a very long shelf life. If you don't use if for a few weeks, months, years, just make sure you give it a stir before using again.

Red Gatorade can be really tough. This method would probably only work if you caught it right away. The problem is that the dye in the Gatorade gets stuck to the carpet fibers resulting in a permanent stain. There are two types of permanent stains: ones caused by organic dyes (coffee, fruit, wine, urine, blood), and ones caused by synthetic dyes (soda, Kool aid, Gatorade). So you are dealing with a synthetic dye stain.. I recommend using hydrogen peroxide for organic dye stains. I have a video on this. For synthetic dye stains, I'd call a professional carpet cleaner. They will use special reducing agents and specialized equipment to remove these stains. I don't recommend trying to remove this red Gatorade stain without the help of a professional carpet cleaner. Really the only way to successfully remove pet urine odors is with an enzyme cleaner. The specific enzyme ingredient is called urease (look for this ingredient on the package before you buy). Urease will break down urea, which is the molecule in urine that is primarily responsible for urine odor. I plan to make a video on this some day. I recommend using a product called "Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover".

Sponge up urine as much as possible. 50:50 white vintage and water. Spray and leave for at least 15 minutes. Blot dry. Bicarbonate Soda overnight. Vacuum. The vinegar solution is what will remove the odour.

If you tried this method, and it did not work, this is likely a permanent stain, which is pretty common for a soda spills. It is possible to remove permanent stains from synthetic dyes like soda but you would probably need to hire a professional carpet cleaner. Synthetic dyes require reducing agents to remove from carpet. A reducing agent would break down the dye molecule that is stuck in your carpet causing it to become invisible. This procedure required specialized equipment and products, so I recommend hiring a professional carpet cleaner. Sorry I can't help more..

I totally agree with you here. If you are having difficulty removing a grease, oil, or a petroleum based spot, a higher alcohol solution might do the trick. The alcohol is a degreaser, so it works like magic on these types of spots. With the recipe that I provided, the final alcohol concentration will be about 50% (after adding the water), which will work extremely well for the vast majority of spots. If you are using 91% alcohol (or higher), I would recommend using the following: 1.5 cups 91% isopropyl alcohol, 1.5 cups of water, and 1 tsp dish soap. This will dilute the final alcohol concentration to about 50% as well.

@@stitchgirl9741 Isopropyl alcohol is a degreaser so it should work well for removing oil based spots from carpet. However, essential oils also have organic dyes from plants in them. It is possible that you could remove the oil with isopropyl alcohol but the dyes get stuck to the carpet fibers. If that is what has happened here, I have another video for you: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmWI0cttZNudoLw.html. This is not guaranteed to work. It's just what I would try based on the information provided.

It was Amber oil which has a yellow tint. I have sand colored sculptured carpeting. The alcohol helped but the color is still noticeable just a shade lighter now.
