How to Remove Shrubs : easy way to remove bushes and roots

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Digging out a bush with a shovel can be exhausting. In this video we demonstrate a quicker and easier method which means avoiding trying to hack through thick roots with a shovel! Instead we used a sawzall or reciprocating saw to speed the process!
These are readily available on Amazon if you don't already have one:
DEWALT Reciprocating Saw, Corded, 12-Amp (DWE305)
by Dewalt

Ryobi P519 18V One+ Reciprocating Saw (Bare Tool)

amzn.to/3srpNUC
SKILSAW SPT44A-00 13 Amp Reciprocating Saw with Buzzkill Tech , Red
by Chervon- SKIL
amzn.to/3iU7l3U
The process was to cut all the horizontally running roots by cutting vertically with the reciprocating saw around the bush. Then a second cut was made horizontally under the bush. With the vertical and horizontal roots cut with the skill saw, the bush is easily removed roots and all.
The project only takes a few minutes and is less labor intensive than trying to cut all the roots with a shovel.

Thank you so much. I have struggled to get rid of these 40 years old plant bushes around my home for awhile. I guess they didn't foresee those innocent flower shrubs they planted could grow into a massive stubborn annoying purposeless bushes in 40 years.

Removed two, 4 year old lilac shrubs today. First, soaked plant for a couple hours. Second, dug trench around plant. Third shoveled and lifted under bush. Fourth, clipped roots with large tree pruner. Finally, removed detached plant core. Left extrapraneous roots in ground.

@@Housebarons The thing is I live in Sweden, so I would have to go find something similar in another store 😅 But being stubborn as I am, I have to try it the hard way first lol. Got the bush cut down to a stump now, next step is to start digging around

Forgot to give an update but it WORKED! We did it with a shovel instead of a saw, basically hacking away at the roots. We got it out and planted something else there 😊

Really great advice. I'm no gardener, but if you cut the plant off at the roots that deep, I'm guessing the rest of the root system underground will just rot away?

Hey Dan, If you are just getting rid of them, a long sawzall blade should do the job. But if you are adding new plantings, then you have to remove the root ball - THAT is a much more painful task! ( truck or tractor pull???) Thx for watching!

Currently trying to sawzall the 60 yr old decaying cedar shrubs stinkin’ up my front lawn, as well… It’s been two turbulent and sweaty days of shoveling, hand digging, axing, sawing, yanking, peeling and kicking-with some cussing and muscle straining peppered in. The root system-at least what I’ve uncovered so far-extends 5+ feet from the root ball. These old hags ain’t goin’ without a fight… It’s just, my saw doesn’t seem to be able to power through. About at my wit’s end. If they weren’t 2 ft from the house, I’d burn ‘em out… 😖
