How to Remove Scratches Swirls in Car Paint: Porsche GT3 RS

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Upon arrival this Porsche GT3 RS had factory swirls once the protective covers were removed. This particular paint was incredibly soft which created intense residue or clear coat removal. The residue gets stuck in the pad as its removed and re-scratches (ie..holograms) the soft paint in the shape or direction of the pad movement. It can be solve or minimized by using a yellow rupes pad, very light M205 and blowing out the pad consistently.

Thanks for the great explanation, Larry. I made a rookie mistake and finished up after compound paired with a microfiber cutting pad, with a fine polish BUT a foam cutting pad (and did exactly as you said, wobbled around because it was a soft, thick pad), not a stiffer finishing pad so now my black car has holograms. I even inspected it in the garage light along with a handheld light, which looked great but once out in the sun, it became apparent what I had done. I have Subaru Legacy (which we all know how soft the paint is) so I'm gonna use your tips and try and clear it up. I got all the major scratches out so I feel now I can just focus on clearing up the paint. Sad to see that the reflex is out at the moment. I'll be sure to grab it as soon as it's back. Thanks again.

That's just the way it is. I work for Mercedes and the cars we deliver are sometimes cringe worthy. Especially when they're black. But most of the customers don't give a fuck or don't even inspect their new car before driving off. We are a very few percentage of detail obsessed people compared to the 'normal consumers'

High end shops also want precise work but really fast or efficient work. It's this work hard, work fast , quality or everything moto, but not really. I applaud this type of work because it extremely precise. I miss this type of work.

How do you recommend to clean out a buffing pad if compressed air is not available?

I see you didn't tape anything off when you were using the polisher. How do you prevent product from coming in contact with the black plastic trim? Last time I did something similar, the black plastic got grayish white stains after 1-2 months which clearly matched the shape of the pad in some areas. Can this be prevented somehow?
