it's just for soaking away the stink, we're not using that milk in cooking. this is a standard way to deal with smelly fish in commercial kitchen all the time

Does this trick work on shrimp or prawn?

It should work because shrimp also contain TMAO, and milk should be able to get rid of that smell but I've never tried it before, I like to use garlic, ginger and scallion to boil them. here's how kzread.info/dash/bejne/daeYo5eHc9mcXZM.html Another method that might help with shrimp, is to rub salt on them and let them sit for 5-10 mins then rinse off the salt. Please try it and tell me which way works the best for you! I'd love to hear from you. thanks for watching
