I bought a 2010 Edge that was owned for 8 years by a smoker. The smell was pretty bad, so I bought some Super Clean, Windex, Meguires Leather Cleaner, Febreze Lavender odor remover, carpet shampoo, Lysol Lavender disinfectant and about 10 white terry cloth tea towels. I double cleaned absolutely every surface inside the car, including the spare tire, the jack and the well they sit in. I changed the cabin air filter and I squirted Lysol onto the fan blades and the filter before reinserting it, then I put the A/C on recirculate and squirted Lysol directly into the thing where the fan pulls the air in and let it run for several minutes then I flipped it on regular A/C and went outside and squirted more Lysol into the grill at the base of the windshield. I took the floor mats to the car wash and blasted them with high pressure hot water and soap and hung them up to dry. Scrubbing the carpets two times not only got rid of the cigarette smell but lots of dirt too! There is no cigarette odor anymore just a very faint smell of lavender which gets fainter every day.

Lots of good tips here, I particularly like the tip for spraying vent cleaner into the the vents and running the A/C. I bought an old SUV from someone who loved to eat (and spill food) in it and their dog was a regular passenger. It took a lot of work to get it clean, I found dried cola and food in just about every crevice.

Plus, small tip: cleaning the seatbelt is also what will fix your belt when it's not rolling back up anymore. It is not because it became stiff, because of the dirt. Hot water and cleaning will fix that.

Last summer my friend spilled about 2 cups worth of milk on my backseat. We were heading to work and I had no choice but to let it sit for almost 10 hours. When I got home later that day I just unbolted the seat and saturated center seatbelt buckle. I did not have the proper tools or chemicals to tackle this problem and I needed the car for work the following day. Here it is 5 months later. The backseat has been aired out for all this time but I don’t have a clue as to what I should do to make the seat safe to put back in the car. It’s a bench style seat. A giant block of foam wrapped in black cloth. I know hiding underneath the cloth is some nasty looking foam. 😔

Many smelly problems in vehicles come down to mold or mildew growth somewhere within the car. During summer, when we rely on air-condition to help us survive the scorching heat, our cars are susceptible to growing molds. We usually have our windows closed during summer to have the cold air from the air-conditioner to circulate. That alone will make the mold thrive and survive inside our cars.

Do you have any suggestions for an alternative to AMMO Shag? I bought some earlier this summer and it worked great but right now tuition bills are my priority so I'm looking for a relatively cheap option

Hello just wanted a quick tip unrelated to this, I want to apply a sealant to my car and would prefer to strip the wax first, what is your preferred method for stripping wax? Do you have any videos on it or can you just tell me?
