How to Remove Burn Stains or Tarnish from a Crown Verity Stainless Steel Grill

One of the best things about a stainless steel grill like from Crown Verity, is they can be rebuilt, fixed and returned to original factory specifications even after many years of use.
This video shares how to clean the surfaces of a stainless steel grill and remove burn stains or tarnish from high-quality steel (304). Sometimes the discoloration is called "blue tarnish" or discolored stainless steel. Whichever it is called, it can be removed with a couple of simple ingredients along with some time and energy.
This video focusses on resurfacing stainless steel in a Crown Verity gas grill which had a number of fires inside the grill leaving blue stains on all four sides of the grill base and the lid. These high heat discoloration stains can be removed and allow the owner to restore a grill.

Fantastic.tips! We have a great grill but needed new “guts” so we ordered all of the new parts but now the outside is a mess! I’ll be trying this and posting before and after photos - hopefully I can do as good of a job as you! We’ll see! I’m off to the auto shop! Thanks for taking the time to share! I hope your back is okay - the entire video I kept thinking your back must be hurting from trying to get on camera - mine was hurting watching 😂

I work as a welder. Not too sure if I'd do it on a food grade application without thoroughly cleaning it after the fact, but items that contain Phosphoric Acid work great on removing the bulk of the staining. The discoloration is a result of the material being exposed to atmospheric gases (it's a form of oxidation). I believe rustoleum is the the brand I normally use but if you pick up their rust dissolver gel it makes quick work of it and removes 95% of the oxidation. Although it's not rust, oxygenation of stainless creates a vary of different colors (straw, blue, purple, etc) just like oxygenation of steel causes the traditional orange rust. Good video, but definitely give it a shot. Use the gel to remove the bulk of it (especially if the material is very warm) and follow up with a range of different grit scotch brite to reestablish the grain pattern

Just get Easy Off Oven Cleaner and apply a lot and leave it on for like an hour. Comes off super easy!
