    Hey Mike, would like to inquire after some information. I primarily use Audacity, and am trying to edit together a little thing I did with some friends for Halloween. One of their audio files has cross-chatter of my voice in their recording, and I need some help trying to remove it... do you have any advice that can help me?

    Mike, I don't know how I can begin to thank you for your content... just YEAH!!!!! I have been scouring the internet, looking for how to set up my home studio, mainly, to begin with, getting the right sound on my mic, especially how to get that "Radio DJ" sound to be what my audience hears in my many Zoom meetings. So there I went, down the YT rabbit hole... usually just a hole, no rabbit to be seen! Everywhere you go, some random dude is telling you he has it all figured out. Well you didn't say that, but then the one who is becoming an ever growing master of his craft doesn't need to tell everyone what a legend he is in his own mind, he just demonstrates excellence that is tangible... that's you, Mike, it's AWESOME to watch & learn from you! Now, I have to admit, I still don't know what they are hearing on the other end of my Zoom meeting, by way of the things I learned from you last night when I found your YT page, but just to hear what a difference your guidance has made in my recorded voice in Au, it's straight up freakin' !!!@BAM@!!! There are still so many questions I have in regard to this complex & fascinating arena, but I LOVE this platform & the opportunities that seem to be available for an entrepreneur, in online video/audio. I have been an Adobe guy since Photoshop 4.0, before the web. InDesign was our primary tool, because (youngsters, cover your ears...) there was no WWW; we created most of our advertising/marketing material for print media, but design, of any kind... it should be a crime to enjoy the work I do as much as I do; I think you know all about that (on most days, LOL). I'm 59 years old & one of the greatest gifts my Creator ever gave me was an early understanding that finding what you love most & then doing it for profit will add decades to your life, ya feel me? I have had times where I was being paid an obscene amount of money to do something, but I TOTALLY hated it... Like getting hit in the face with a bag of nickels! Anyway, I have a million miles to go in getting my knowledge up to my own exacting standards, but at least with you, I know I have found The Path. Maybe do a training on how to configure one's Zoom so that the sound is as good as it gets for that use-case? I saw you have an entire course on audio production & i may avail myself of that down the road, once we recover from 2 years of covid-madness... 70% of my clients are gone now... Copywriters do go on, don't they? I wanted to leave a message that to some degree conveyed my incredible awe & appreciation for all you have made available to me here & to tell anyone else tha may run across this review, if you are looking for an avenue to mastery in this area of audio perfection, quit wasting time, stay here until you are as well versed & proficient as Mike Russell, he's close enough for Rock-n-Roll!!!!!

    I tried your approach on a short clip. It very effectively removed the noise but only in the selected section. Tried the option, Noise Reduction (process) instead. Then checked the select entire clip after the sound model was acquired and it worked for entire clip. Also, seems important that the first instance of noise on the clip timeline needs to be selected as the model for it to work. I’m probably missing the point since I’m a total newbie at this.

    If that's true it's a vital point - the first instance of noise? My "cleanest dirty" spot was at the end so I selected that, and no matter how I tweak the settings I get a slightly robot voice.

    I actually have a related issue that is sorta like what you are talking about here, but a little different as well. I recorded a play for a local youth theater and am currently editing the footage. For audio, I recorded two feeds into the camera I was using. The first channel is a direct line from the sound board. So, on that feed, I get all of the mic'd characters and the music (which was from a track--it is not live music). The second channel is just the built in mic from the camera. That picks up everything, including the audience reaction. I like having the second channel, because the audio of the audience reaction makes the overall preaentation seem authentic. The direct feed from the sound board sounds so clear, but doesn't have anything from the audience, so it doesn't seem real when you are watching the video. The problem is that when mixed together, the music and dialogue/vocals is duplicated, and it creates an echo effect. I can turn the volume down on the second channel to reduce that, but then I'm also turning the sound down on the audience, which defeats the purpose of that all together. Is there a way to isolate and reduce the volume of the duplicate music and dialogue on the second channel from the audience, so that when the two channels are mixed, I get the music and actors from channel 1 and only the audience reaction (without the music and actors) on channel 2? I know I can just go through and manually increase the volume for the second channel at points where the audience is applauding, but that is 1. Tedious, and 2. Problematic when the audience is reacting while there is still music playing...

  • @MikeRussell

    @MikeRussell

    You may be able to work something using a side chained compressor but otherwise, off the top of my head, you’d be manually editing it.

    Hi ! I have watched many of your videos, that are great by the way, but I was wondering if you made a video on how to isolate and export background noise ? I googled and looked all over youtube but it seems that everybody wants to get rid of it and nobody explains how to enhance and isolate background noise to reuse it, if that makes sense. I went through your channel videos and didn't see it. I have a football game recording and I am trying to isolate the stadium noise and the fans chants or to remove the sportscasters vocals (without too much degradation of the background noise). If you have a video explaining it, a tutorial or any idea on how to do it, I would be eternally gratefull.

    Hello Mike. I have some audio where the dialogue seems to be bouncing off of glass or a light bulb or something in the room as the subject speaks. Kind of difficult to describe the sound, but i can compare it to rubbing your finger over a wine glass type of sound. Sound familiar? If so, what is a good approach to try and diffuse? Thank you Mike.

    Hi there, it sounds like you're dealing with reflections or room reverberation in your audio. To reduce these unwanted sounds, try using a de-reverberation or de-reflection plugin in your audio editing software, or record in a quieter environment with minimal reflective surfaces.

    I recorded audio with my parents talking in the background but not loudly, and a drone flying from 3 meters all the way to 20+ at the same time.There are definitely parts where even Audition has limits. When my parents talk and the drone is flying, either I will eliminate the drone completely and my parents will be heard in the background, but you won't be able to make out ANYTHING of what they're saying OR I can listen to my parents perfectly fine but have the drone sound in the distance, just a little bit less.I also had the drone disappear completely but each time I was talking or my parents, you could hear the drones buzzing too. Just saying that 2 noises in the background , happening at the same time means that the frequencies are enhanced and get stuck together. For example, if you have strong wind and a drone flying, and you want to remove the drones noise but keep the wind, it's not possible as they are both tied in the same frequency.So, either you delete both or keep both.Only AI should be able to deal with this like in Final cut pro, but sadly I don't have a Mac to use it.

  • @MikeRussell
