***UPDATE*** Do Not make my mistake. After chasing no oil pressure on a fresh 355. We pulled oil pump Melling HV55 to inspect. Nothing wrong. I told my son to check bottom of pan for maybe we forgot a rag or something. He comes up with Timing gear teeth. Pulled mains /looked good/ pulled t-cover only to find half the teeth missing on lower gear. Culprit was 2 cam galley plugs pushed out of the front of block got caught in middle of dbl roller and granaided sprocket. For the love of god please taps those cam 1/4 pipe plugs. Especially when using a HV pump. Lesson learned. Now i have to put the puzzle together and find all the teeth.

If you want to fill your lifters before hand and don't want to wait, just use an oiling can and fill them up through the oling hole on the side until it comes out the top.

I've no doubt that anyone here knows this, but the fundamental difference between a motor, and an engine, is simply a motor is powered via an external energy source, most often electricity. An engine is powered via internal combustion, most commonly gasoline, or diesel... Not so widely know, the fundamental difference between horns and antlers. Horns are made of bone, and are not seasonally shed. Antlers are made of hair and are seasonally shed. If you placed a cross section of antler under a microscope, you would see no difference between it and the hair on the animals back

i get what your saying but antlers and horns are made of bone. Antlers just look like a fabric of small hairs through a microscope.

You slip the cam back in, and then you put the sprockets on and line up the dots to face eachother, and then put the chain on and torque it all to spec. Then spin the motor over twice to make sure it all ligns up as it should.

heads no, rods and rocker arms yes. The push rods need to be removed in order to remove and replace camshafts. The lifters need to be removed on this engine but with a lot of engines you can use a rod to hold up the lifters and keep them from dropping them into the cam shaft valley

I have an 87 k5 blazer TBI 350 5.7l v8 and I want to put a bigger cam in it. I’ve had several mechanics tell me this is not possible because of the MAP sensor. Is this true or do they not know how to do it? I’m not a me mechanic by any means so I’m searching for some answers.

You would need to find a cam that’s “computer controlled.” COMP, Melling, and Summit have good options. The Melling MTC-1 or Summit K1102 kits are good, inexpensive choices. You’re not gonna get a choppy idle but you will get more power, and more importantly, a much better powerband. Throw some vortec heads and an intake manifold that’ll your tbi will bolt to, and get some software(a chip burned or Dynamic EFI’s EBL-II, and you’ll be good to go. With all that and full bolt ons, and a ported TBI, you can see 300+whp. Harris Tuning has some awesome articles on TBI performance.
