This technique worked! I read about the grease-packing method and tried it....grease squirted out and onto my face; lol! I thought it was some kinda' cruel joke. Go ahead and laugh. It felt dumb. So I found this video and tried it and the bushing came out after some persuasion and white bread. Thanks for the tip.

F the bread, F the slide hammer, and F the toilet paper method. I tried the TP method (it didn't work), my girlfriend tried the bread method on her car (it didn't work), then resorted to the slide hammer. The slide hammer still took her a long time to get it out. The may actual pilot bushing removal tools (klowny1969 has a video of him using it). It's by far the best way to do it. After the TP method failed I used that, out in no time flat.

In the late 80s I had to replace the pilot bearing on my 79 RX7. It was a nightmare. The pilot bearing is a caged roller bearing. A standard puller made a gnarled mess of it. From there on it was punch and pick. I shuda hired a dentist!. I wonder if the bread method would have worked in this case. Not likely I'll EVER do it again but yours is a good tip. Good video too. Thanks

I used this method on a Toyota 22RE, and it worked like a charm. Just beware what you use this method on. Some cranks have an oil galley plug inside at the bottom of the pilot bearing bore. If you use bread, grease, toilet paper, or something else on a crank so equipped, you might push the plug in. This could cause an oil leak, and require engine disassembly to repair.

You saved my butt. The engine and the transmission havent been mated in years because the donor was a stick shift and the pilot bearing slipped my mind. Even my engine got some hotdog buns on the 4th of july. Now everything is together and in the car!

Hell yes it works. I have a 1995 gmc, and I bet the guy I paid to change my clutch out a couple years ago didn’t replace it. There were no bearings left in it, just the shell...... I tried a wheat English muffin first and packed and pounded tell I couldn’t take it anymore, watched some other videos, wet paper towels I wet some paper towels and they just didn’t feel squishy enough, so I went back in and found some honey wheat bunny bread, nice and squishy😁, it (right away) started coming out, another wad of bread, a couple of smacks, oh yeah baby, another wad of bread , another good smack and it popped out of there 🤛🏼

Well, here goes, gonna go raid the wife pantry with my greasy ass hands for some bread. Nice video man.

Question. Does ANYTHING go over the pilot converter? Like a cap. I cant explain it but as i disassembled my block and lifted my crankshaft out..i heard a noise and it looks like the pilot bearing fell out (somehow)...so im ready to put everything back and the pilot bearing wont go in. Its slightly too big. It appears a cap needs to be removed before placing and tapping the pilot in and then the cap back on....i just dont understand how it managed to go through the cap since its too big...its a wierd thing. I just didnt actually see it happen, i only heard the piece fall on the ground
