Thank you for the video. My wife just gave me a very nice fine nib 51 for father's day. The clip was loose and I was able to tighten it using your method.

Thank you. Very useful. I have a number of Parkers including some P17s and one of them had a hood that was misaligned with the nib as well as many other problems such as a corroded sac cage. As a practice exercise I wanted to get the hood off but it was stuck fast. As a shot to nothing (the pen was cheap and I didn't mind trashing it) I left the whole pen including cap immersed in hot but not boiling water for several minutes. With a mix of brute force and ignorance I was then able to unscrew the hood, to be met by a glorious heap of 40 years worth of caked-on blue ink. I might be able to solve the issues now (aside from the corrosion) but even if not, it's another little bit of experience gained.

Hi Graham, yes rather drastic measure which should only be attempted with cheap pens. Try not to use hot water where you can and brute force breaks pens. Either way well done and stay safe.

You need a special tool to remove the clutch and inner cap, then the dings can be removed it you have the correct mandril. You can try a polishing cloth which will temporarily hide the fading.

The clip on one of my 51´s was loose. Removed the jewell just like you describe, but couldn´t put it back in place. Screwed the piece back in place, from the inside, using one of those pencils with an eraser . Worked just fine.

Thanks for the explanation! My late father had this Parker 21 -I'm assuming the hood removal process to be the same- and I'm having some trouble getting it clean. I've already rinsed it over and over as well as let it soak overnight a couple of times, but the water's still coming out tinted with red ink. So I'm afraid I'll have to disassemble it and clean the collector directly - I don't have a sonic cleaner, but I guess I'll have to get one.

Unfortunatly the Parker 21 are a little different to the 51s. They are very inexpensive to buy so maybe consider buying another ? Good luck.

@@penkino1 Oh, I see… I have two Parker 21 pens, both of which (among other pens) belonged to late father's. One of them I had no problem cleaning, but the other one probably has a good amount of red ink clogging the collector. Anyway, even if I can't get to disassembling the hood, at least I can stick to using only red ink with it :-)

With out seeing the pen its a little difficult to comment. However you could remove the cap jewel and clip to gain access from the top of the cap. Either way be careful you do not damage the nib.

Hi, I have the exact P51 and when I got it there are dry up blue ink. I pump it in clean water until the water is clear and soak it in Technical pen cleaner for 24hr. Pumping the technical pen fluid seems to be clear, I test by inking it up but it write drily and flow cannot keep up most of the time. I tried to remove the hood with air dyer but not successful. I tried not to ruin the pen or melt it so I might say I didn't try too hard. So I would like to seek your opinion do you think the feed is still choke with old ink and suggest to soak it a few day more or I should try to dismantle it once for all?

Every time I try to uncap mine the top half of the pen and the cap just separate from the bottom the same as if had unscrewed it. I have to screw it back on a little then pull hard and the cap comes off. Basically, when I unscrew the pen to open it and write and take the cap off, the cap stays connected and the bottom cover just comes off. It's like the cap is stuck somehow
