I have a Mud Dauber Wasp who only a few days ago made its nest on my terrace here in NYC! Yes we do have Nature here in the City besides people lol. I watched her build her nest in only 2 days. Incredible Engineering, and in which I fell in love with her and will allow her to stay as long as she likes. This particular species of Wasp is completely harmless so just let LIVE AND LET LIVE.

I've noticed these popping up above the front door frame outside of my apartment. I knocked one down with a broom last night and it sounded like glass shattering. The next day there was another one right back in the same spot.

I have one just outside my front door in the shutters. I wish I didn't have to kill it because I have read that they are not aggressive and seldom ever stings. However, I have knocked the nest down a couple of times and he keeps coming back and almost flying into me every time he comes out, when I am standing on my front porch smoking a cigarette. I think I have no choice but to spray him..

I found a mud nest on the upper interior corner of my bedroom window. I didn’t notice that the window pane was slidding down leaving a tiny opening. Freaked me out as I didn’t know what it was. After some research I was convinced it was a wasp nest and I had to remove it. It seemed an empty nest, thankfully. Good to learn more about these insects. I’m kinda obsessed with them now and watching any video I can find about them.

I was a little confused about what you were saying about carpet beetles..... do the bees eat the beetles or do the beetles go after the nest?? The reason im asking is because we are having a bad problem with carpet beetles right now and i also found a mud dauber building a nest in between my doors. It had been a nightmare. Please help!!!

Thank you for the very informative video! I have some mud daubers who regularly visit my garden and a small bee bath I set up there. The proximity of the bath to the earth is was attracts them as they collect the mud. I welcome bees and wasps in my garden as they control the nuisance insects and my plants are looking terrific! My tomato plants are whole and their leaves are not eaten up by other insects (this was a huge problem for me before I solicited the help of bees!). I never found a nest but surely there has to be some nearby. Unless they locate inside my house, I would leave them be.

We were some 50 km away from lake Ontario and are now about 2 km from it: I am surprised by the new selection of insects that I have found in living here less then a month. I was figuring out this strange mud-spit-nest found on the parasol, which looked as though it was made by a wasp, but full of spiders of the same family but of different sizes and markings. Why did some have larvas attached? How fascinating, even if a little gross. This reminded me of Alien... poor paralyzed little spiders feeding the next generation of Mud Dauber Wasps. Sigh. Nature is awesome.

I have a nest in my room on the window frame and she is now angry so she basically kicked me out of my room after her nest got sprayed by my landlord as she wasn't around when the nest got sprayed but she came to the nest after the spraying and i'm stuck outside my porch till she calms down lol i feel like an idiot being kicked out of my bedroom by a bug lol. I'm highly alleric to bees and wasps stings so my guess i'm allergic to anything with a mean bite or sting equal to a bee sting or wasp sting.

Hi, Thanks for your Video! I have the same question as Wicked Jester Spoze had,....We have a few nests in our home, one of them is big with holes in it n i was told it has bees/Dauber in it n it can bite, how do i approach that one/break that one? There was one I broke i had 100s of larvae/worms yuck in it i killed them as many I could , but the mud SPREAD to a very long area(in dots shapes) after that/after i broke the home n killed them. Is there any spray for them or should i wear/cover myself completely before i reach n break the big mud home with holes in it? Thanks.

austin is right- they're not hostile. Even if the wasp was present while you were removing the nest..it's highly unlikely you'd get stung.

How agressive are these guys? The ones im after are in an inclosed space under some wood, and I need to move the wood to get at them. I'm afraid if I move this wood which is right on top of their nests, they'll chase me out like any other wasp. Is there a special trick to these guys? Because they sure arnt as easy as paper wasps that buld there nest in the open.
