How to Remove a Chevy 350 Water Pump

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Installing a new ACDelco water pump in my 1976 C3 Corvette Stingray. Part 1 of 3.
Replacing the water pump on a C3 Corvette is not difficult, as long as you have a good set of tools and can take your time to see the process from start to finish.
In Part 1 I cover the following:
▶ Removal of the old pump
▶ Old water pump inspection
▶ Comparison of the new ACDelco unit vs. the old aftermarket pump
▶ Installing new fan studs properly
▶ Getting things ready to install the new water pump
. . . and more!
I broke this project into three parts to keep the videos from getting too long.
This is a complete series covering each step, from removing the old water pump to installing a new pump, refilling the cooling system, and starting up the car to ensure there were no leaks or issues.
If you follow my blog (www.76vette.com), then you are aware that my '76 Vette was having overheating issues, and I decided to replace the aftermarket water pump, which was starting to fail, with an ACDelco unit, which actually fits much better.
I also addressed the installation of new water pump fan studs, since the old pump studs barely allowed for three threads to secure the fan, which was cutting too close for my taste.
I was lucky that the upper and lower radiator hoses were in new condition (I installed new hoses about five years ago), and I was able to reuse them. Replacing the lower radiator hose is not easy, and I was glad to be able to avoid it.
Below is a list of parts and products related to this project. Sometimes it's worth your time and effort to replace older components such as the thermostat, temperature-sending unit, and more.
I hope these videos are helpful if you decide to replace your C3 Corvette's water pump.
Thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻

Your toolbox reminds me of my years working on Helicopters in the Coast Guard. We had all of our tools sunk into the foam for easy tool inventory after the maintenance was completed. If anything was missing, all aircraft were grounded until we found the tool. Great memories at Air Station Miami!

Thanks very helpful and to the point. Started wrenching and only took 1.5 hours to remove my pump. Made a memory board out cardboard to keep track of bolts.
