Nice video! I have re-laced that exact model of that All-Star mitt about 3 times. If I had a "regular" lace (brown, black or even a color) I would lace it like you with the rough side facing out on the back of the glove for the palm. But since you are using the gold foil, which is shiny gold on one side but not gold on the rough side, I would twist the lace so that the gold side is facing out on the back as well. I figure if you go to the trouble of paying extra for that lace then show it off on all sides. Keep up the good work.

That’s definitely a thing I incorporate but I’ve recently been second guessing myself. When a lace is twisted, it unevenly redistributes its tensile strength. Causes more stress on one half of the width of the lace than the other. Been thinking this isn’t a good idea for catchers mitts specifically considering just how much stress and shock they take. That awkwardly redistributed tensile strength may not necessarily snap, but the physics of it would suggest it would stretch out unevenly and actually stretch more than it would if the entire lace was distributed evenly since there’s the full width of the lace to distribute said shock. Even in an aesthetic sense, it would then look rather ugly on both sides considering those twists would no longer be buried (they’re hardly buried to begin with). Definitely not coming at you in any way with this. Just a notion that’s been eating at me. Concerns double when considering skived lace for palm area

@@willgowdy6133 - I would agree if you were talking about the web lace or any other part of the glove under stress. But here I was talking about the "palm" lace (for want of a better term). It does not receive the impact force that the web gets. Even the base of the web doesn't as most manufacturers use thin lace (the same as in the palm) at the very base of the web. The only function of the palm lace is to hold the pads in and keep them in place at the outer perimeter of the glove. In all the catcher's mitts I have relaced (somewhere north of 75 now) I have not seen a palm lace broken due to stress. I have seen broken web lace (of course), the heel (outside perimeter) - because catchers push that part of the glove into ground when they get back into their stance, and the hinge (because it flexes all the time). The other I have never seen broken due to stress is the wrist strap. By the way I use un-skived thin lace in the palm. Sometimes I use skived lace for the hinge (mostly on youth models), but I prefer not to. Also I would only twist the lace for silver, gold or other metallic colors because the rough side is not the same color. Any other color like blue, red etc, I let the rough side show because the whole lace is the same color front and back.
