How To Register Your Drone in Thailand. Now It's Easier 🇹🇭

If you're residing in Pattaya, Jomtien, or any other part of Thailand, you might find the idea of flying a drone appealing. In the past, obtaining permission was a bit of a challenge, but now, it is more straightforward than ever to fly a drone legally in Thailand. I will guide you through a simple and hassle-free process to ensure you can enjoy flying your drone with complete peace of mind.
There are many opportunities to make fantastic videos here in Thailand as the beautiful landscape looks great from above. Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, Chang Mai... So many places to explore from the air.
NOTES:
All drones in Thailand need to be registered regardless of their weight.
In Thailand, flying above 90 meters or flying after sunset is prohibited.
The registration process can take up to 2 weeks and while it can be started in advance, it can only be finalised when you arrive in Thailand.

One question though, as you’ve mentioned, it takes around 2 weeks to get the permission, but what do you mean with 3-4 days more when you’ve arrived to thailand? is it something i have too collect while in thailand? Or do i write to the insurance company when i’ve arrived to thailand? Also do you get the permit on your email to show it up if needed, or how does it work? Cheers!

Sorry I don't know. Best to Google the model of your drone followed by "fly more batteries". Also note that fly more batteries will put your DJI mini over the legal weight for your country's licensing exemption.

Hello Heath! I went thru the comment to find an answer to my question but I wasn't able to find any. In a previous comment you said "The permit gets finalized once you are actually in Thailand. This is because they need a photo of your visa or visa waiver stamp to complete the process." But what if I get the visa prior to coming to Thailand? I will stay in Kuala Lumpur for a week and I will get my 60d tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. After getting that visa can I send a scan of it online to FEIC to get the permit? Or do I need to enter Thailand?

  • @oneendofthailand

IMO, The best drones are the DJI brand but a good budget drone is the SJRC F11 which was the drone I used in my earlier videos (they are about £140 so ideal for a first drone). However, the SJRCs do not come with serial numbers so they are difficult to register without jumping through extra hoops. So maybe a DJI Mini 2 or 3 would be the best choice and you won't grow out of it as the quality of the cameras is excellent. This video may be helpful regarding buying one here. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmSCzax7oa7XYaQ.html

You would need to register both drones separately. However, you may have problems carrying more than two batteries on the plane on your flight over as the batteries need to be with your carry-on luggage, so I would suggest bringing only one drone with you. Not sure why you would want to bring two drones? If you go via the insurance company as suggested in the video, then once you have cover for two drones they will sort the registration for both drones with CAAT and NBTC.
