How to Reduce Tearing During Childbirth (Zoom meeting with Dr. Julianna 2020)

One of the fears women have about childbirth is tearing. Tears occur in up to 90% of women during their first birth and between 44 and 79% of birthing women overall. Tears are related to the size of the baby, the expecting woman’s diet, whether or not it’s her first delivery and genetics. They can have some lasting effects on women if not treated correctly. But what a lot of women don’t know is that there are things to help reduce their chances of tearing and how to best heal after delivery.
I had the pleasure of discussing this sensitive topic with Dr. Julianna Allen, a pelvic floor physical therapist, and owner of Embrace PT & Wellness in Boston, MA. She is passionate about teaching birthing people how to best prepare for and heal after the transformation that is pregnancy and birth, and she is sharing her secrets with us!
