    Thank you so much for this video. My nine yr old son wanted to be able to make gameplay videos for KZread as his Christmas present, and, being a technologically limited single mum I was scratching my head a little! But I followed all your advice and instructions and have just spent the evening hooking everything up and making sure it all works before the big open on Xmas morning.... I know my sons going to be over the moon as I not only told him it was too expensive, but he probably suspects that I haven't the foggiest how it all works!

    lol, thats brave. just a few tips here, 1) the perpose of the elgarto is to record the gameplay in as high resolution as is possible..1080p, however, the file size of the video you record will probably be too big to upload to you tube.... the best way to get that 1080p gameplay video to a small file size is to use an app called "handbrake" which is free and probably the best out there ....it will compress your video with no noticable loss of resolution. 2) if you use video editing software then brilliant...if not, nows the time to get an editor and add titles etc to your videos...its not important but does not take long to get the hang of it, hope this helps, just ask if you need advise.

    alan howatt Do you just upload the recorded video through your saved videos(where I’m assuming the video goes as soon as you end the recording) or do you have to make a folder for the elgato

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    6 жыл бұрын

    Phoenix Overdrive Gaming Hi, a folder from the Elgarto software will be automatically created where the recorded videos will be stored. From there you can put the video into editing software or just upload it but in 1080p the video file sizes could be quite large so compress it in handbrake then upload it. Hope this helps.

    I dont get the point of the splitter? If its only one hdmi output from the splitter then cant you jusy go directly from the ps3 to the captrue card input and then from the capture card output to the tv? If we arent splitting it another way? Also changing my ps3 settings to component doesnt show anything for me. But Ill still try to work it out!

    Is there a way to save a captured video file to say your PS3 drive or transfer it to a USB drive and then take the USB drive and transfer it to your computer? I'd rather not have to disconnect my computer from the other room.... I thought this would be a bit more simple since there's a "video uploader and editer" built into the PS3 system...

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    7 жыл бұрын

    to keep it simple you are best using the elgarto software to record the game and commentry audio together, but you could use a rode lapel mich connected to an iPhone but then you would have to synch the audio in post. to connect a mich to a computer it would be best to buy one with a usb that has been designed to plug and play but the good ones are not cheap

    What about the mic picking up the TV audio? They would want sound from the TV but the elgato will also record sound, I don't want an echo...?

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    7 жыл бұрын

    best try the elgarto sound first and see how it sounds. if you are in a room where the comentry audio is giving an echo then maybe look into a directional mich that can be placed away from the tv and close to the person talking but for a good michrophone, they don't come cheap.

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    7 жыл бұрын

    yorkshire rose Ok,.... on the PS4 you can stream to twitch directly from your console in 720p... it is a very good 720p. With the PS3 you can get the twitch app on your console but as far as I know you can't stream from the PS3 to twitch. So, yes you will need the elgarto or a similar product and if you want to record in 1080p then you will need the splitter as well as that gets around the hdcp protection. From the elgarto software on your computer you can then stream your video to twitch. If twitch only allow streaming in 720p it will still look almost as good as 1080p Hope this helps

    Hi, at the end of the video, when it's all plugged in... there's like a massive lag between the image on the TV and the image on the monitor, plus the monitor does quite a lot of strange interference which the TV doesn't, do you know why it all that happens? that lag would make any game un-playable, wouldn't it?

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    5 жыл бұрын

    Michael S-h Hi... yes there is a lag between the gameplay on the tv and the monitor. The way it works... you play the game and watch it on the TV screen as normal...the gameplay is being recorded onto the monitor which is lagging behind real time but your not supposed to be watching the monitor.. it's only there to record the gameplay. The TV screen was faulty at that time and was glitching quite badly... I have since replaced that tv and all is ok now... when the TV screen was glitchy...none of the glitches were ever seen in the recorded gameplay

    You can do it but you won't be ablte to stream/record because the PS3 have a internal record protection (idk how is it called) that's why you split the signal

    i am not familiar with chrome books but from what i have heard they are really only for web browsing and not much power for anything else, also if they do have a hdmi port which is doubtfuldoubfull it only sends a signal like for mirroring on a separate display so to be honest with you it would be best to get a desktop computer or a laptop with a bit of go in it. also remember you will be running the elgarto software to record your gameplay to your computer and you may also want to run a web cam at the same time to record yourself for you tube videos and most chrome books may not be able to handle that.

    I don't understand the purpose of HDMI splitter why not out of PS3 go directly into the video capture input?

  • @alan4x

    @alan4x

    7 жыл бұрын

    David Hamilton If you don't use the splitter you can only record your gameplay in 720p resolution. The splitter gets around the hdcp protection and allows you to record your gameplay in 1080p resolution

    David Hamilton the playstation has something called HDCP that doesn't allow you to record the screen. The splitter removes the HDCP and allows for you to record.

    On your computer in your elgarto software make sure in the preferences that it is set to 1080p and Xbox 360.

    When you are recording a game the game play on your computer will be a few seconds behind what is on your TV and will be a bit laggy but if all is set up correctly should record in 1080p and after recording is done will play back at 30 frames per second in 1080p

    Not sure then, as long as your PlayStation settings are on component d-terminal and you have the correct splitter, I left a link in the description and your computer can record in 1080p it should work. If you go to the elgarto website they have an online setup including using the splitter
