How to recognize T-72 variants. T-72 Spotter's Guide

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Have you ever wanted to be able to recognize different tank models without much trouble. Well look no further cause you are on the right place. In this video we will be taking a look
at different Soviet and later Russian T-72 models. The export models and the ones developed by other countries will not be covered in this video, simply because it would be way too
long, I will cover them in a separate video.

In reality...Your probably not going to see the wheels. not in combat at leadt youll see them front on if your in a fight. and if not youll see the tank hull down or driving(dust clouds hiding the wheels) so its an incredibly unreliable way. Myself as a tanker the only chance of seeing the wheels is when its driving(and doesnt know we exist) and use thermals. as the dust wont obscure them. otherwise you wont likely see them at all

Early T-72 Ural had better turret protection, since it used T-64A turret with combined armor. They can be recognized by small bulge at the back of the turret - they was modified to use UVZ autoloader. UVZ failed to make same turrets on their factory, so they made usual turret without combined armor. But they still used IR searchlight on left side for some time, until 1975, when they modified their turret design. That's why early Ural's have IR searchlight on left side.

  • @ozza1785

Also things was changed from time to time. For example - late 1983/1984 manufactured T-72A's had new turret and armor - basically they became T-72B, but without Kontakt-1 and ability to fire ATGMs. Or some amount of T-72 Ural was upgraded to T-72A level with rubber skirts and smoke launchers (but with original turret).

Hi the T-15 Amarta tank was photographed displaying two double hydraulic hoses running down both sides to the front, would you have any idea what could these be for. I now have images of these lines entering the inside of the tank but still attached to the Hull. Clearly these lines are hydraulic so powered from the engine PTO could this be another prototype feature under evaluation.

I would say yes. This thing is based on a tank which is even older then the T-72 XD The armore should be so weak modern 30mm or 40mm would have a chance to destroy this thing even from the front if they are near enougth. Also it has only a 100mm gun which is more then onyl obsolet for modern standarts. I would guess even some tracked IFV´s beside the Puma would withstand a KE-round from this gun (Don´t know if the already invented some APFSDS for that thing) They should order more T-72 based tanks or western ones like Leo. 2 to have something that can be used against other tanks.

T-72B's are more often seen without ERA most the T-72B's you see with ERA are T-72BA's and T-72B1's. you also forgot to mention that T-72B was the first to introduce the Add on Applique turret roof armor as well as moving tge smoke discharges to the left side of the turret and new storage bins.

@@RedEffectChannel I understand, but this anyway is a big problem because in addition to the breech power to explode even the vehicle becomes unusable until the exchange of the part and in vehicles like Abrams is especially dangerous because the projectile can still stick the protection of the ammunition box and cause a catastrophic explosion. I think this is a design flaw of all MBTs that should be improved, either with ERA or by putting armor that would get stuck in the rest of the tower so as not to increase the weight of the weapon
