Keep mine in small pots,feed in summer,go to 5c in winter then flower every year. Original bulb has turned into 21 bulbs now.

Can't believe I'm still managing to keep those leaves alive. They are huge! Glad to see yours were wrapped up too from flopping over. Can't wait to get it out on the back deck.

I purchased a Minerva amaryllis this past November and planted it. Immediately beautiful big green leaves started growing. It never has bloomed, but it did have a baby! There’s now two bulbs and two sets of leaves in that pot. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll hope for blooms next holiday season after I send them to dormancy this fall.

Thank you for this “lesson”. I got my first amaryllis for Christmas this year and have been wondering what to do with it... so now I know! This was the best tutorial i’ve seen- the most explanatory to the novice plant parent! One question- I live in a temperate climate and do not have a cool house zone to push my bulb into dormancy. Do you think 2 months in my refrigerator might work?

Idk im keeping it in a same pot for about ten years now, i do not fertilise, just in the fall i keep it in a garage at 10C. It reblooms each year, and miltiplied. Theres about 10 there, 4 of wich bloomed this year.

You inspired me to try amaryllis. I now have 3. Thanks for letting us know how to let them go dormant.

It took me several years to get the time for their dormancy right, and although I got a little bit better over time I often fail to bring them to bloom at or around christmas. But it´s pure joy to get them to bloom again and again. After losing a whole bunch to slugs/snails over the summer outdoors, they now stay inside the house all year long. Your Amaryllis looks fabulous!

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm Hello Danielle, yes, IMO they do better when left inside the house. The only problem is, that they love a sunny spot at the window sill and I have plenty of bulbs and not enough space. When kept in the garden during summer, most of them got damaged by slugs/snails/heat/rain. Inside I´m in charge and the only one to blame, if I forget to put them in the cellar for dormancy( because one must have Amaryllis for Christmas, right?) at the right time, wich for me is at the beginning of August . Overall it´s less work and more control and the perform better this way! Have a nice weekend, stay safe and happy gardening! Hanni.

My neighbor keeps her amaryllis on her covered bag deck in the summertime in zone 7b. It gets morning sun and afternoon shade and they are enormous. We deal with both squirrels and snails, so I am afraid to plant mine in the garden. Both my amaryllis and my poinsettia live indoors all year.

After having these for decades, I let one develop seeds last year. I was amazed how many sprouted but I was pretty sure the tiny sprouts wouldn't survive dormancy. I'm amazed that they ALL seemed to make it. I know it will take many years to grow to bloom size but it will be fun to watch. Got double bloom stalks this year from my biggest bulb even though I let it produce seed. I might try fertilizing a bloom again this year & see what happens. I always keep them somewhat rootbound & always in terra cotta pots to prevent rot. They live outside in N. Georgia, in their pots all summer. I buy new ones for cheap if I find them post bloom, often 50% or more off. Mine rarely bloom by Christmas but they're welcome blooms any time!

I will definitely be giving this ago next year unfortunately I was unable to get one for Christmas due to COVID I cannot wait for our garden centres to reopen 🪴🌷🪴

Wow, it's gorgeous! How long do the flowers last?

Do you feed them? I have several, but noticed the bulbs shrink, and thought maybe I should feed them in the summer.

Every one of my Amaryllis bloomed this year. However, several of them only produced two flowers on each stem . Do you think that giving more sun and extra fertilizer will help them produce a better show next year?

What about living in the South where you don't have low temperatures in your house during the rest period?

I live in zone 8 Myrtle SC Now is early May. Flower bloomed for Christmas and is inside in sunny place with the green leaves. It is the tall red you did a video on. Can I plant in a sunny place in my garden now should I cut stems or leave them. My friends and I will be ordering bulbs from you. Thanks

I am new at growing amaryllis and I do not have a basement or a cool space of any kind. My garage is not very cool in the months needed to give the plant dormancy. I read some where, they put their bulbs in the refrigerator. Was wondering what you thought of that?

if you can't get the bulb to rebloom (leaves, but no blooms) can you try again the next year? I think I made some mistakes and am only getting leaves but I don't want to toss the bulb if I can give it another try

I have an amarillo I got from a friend about a year or two ago. She let me dig it out of her yard and I plan to get in a flower pot. Since I've had it planted in the flower pot all it has done is make Leaves. It never made a flower stalk or made flowers since i got it from her. When it was planted in her yard it made a flower. Any advice on how to get it to make flowers? I read somewhere on Google about watering with warm water to help. Any advice is appreciated greatly.

Thank you for this great information. This is my first year with this plant and I have cut it back like you suggested. However I have very tiny flies on the plant...can it be saved or is it time to quit?

Hi Violet! Do you think they are fungus gnats? Are they flying around the plant? Or connected to the leaves? If they are gnats a yellow sticky trap will catch the adults, and a product called gnatral will kill the larvae in the soil.

Can I just leave mine inside in a sunny room? I’d rather not deal with bug removal from having it outside.

The more sun they get, the better the bulb recharges. If you have a really sunny window, it might work. I feel like letting them go through cooling in the fall helps. I just let mine get dry as fall gets cooler & the leaves are almost gone when I bring them in. I spray all the plants I'm bringing in with the hose & then several times with insecticidal soap or an organic like Spinosad.

Hi there! They will naturally brown and fall off during dormancy. You can leave them to fade away on their own.

I put about 6 bulbs in my basement last November , and they died back. I just brought them back upstairs again and some are producing bulbs and some just leaves. Any idea why?

if i just leave the plants in the pot outside, they will not bloom again?

I've heard that some people will fertilize the bulbs during the summer, you didn't mention this so I wondered if it's necessary or beneficial for rebooting?

I have heard that also. I can't imagine it would hurt, but I have never bothered and the bulb still reblooms.

What about zone 7b ?
