How To Really Understand What You Study | Evidence-Based Techniques

We all know that studying without understanding is a waste of time.
Are there any evidence-based techniques that we can make use of to understand what we study, better? Yes! And that's what's discussed in this video.
#StudyTube #StudyBetter
This is Video #1 of a 3 part series titled "The most effective study habits" where I discuss 1. How to understand what we study 2. How to remember what we study and 3. How to focus better when studying

    3:20 you just described my life, doc. I was the only kid in class with an understanding of the English language, which meant I barely had to put any effort to top. And because both my parents were bookworms, I also had a well rounded general knowledge. It got to a point where I was simply relying on classwork to top the exams and it was working too... Until 11th grade reared its ugly head. I chose a prestigious institute with a ridiculous merit cut off so naturally, the smartest kids in the province went there. Most of my classmates were actually pretty focused with breathtakingly organized schedules. I, on the other hand, wasn't used to studying or doing any homework. What I realized too late was that by relying solely on classwork, one could only score average there. This put my chances of scoring well in the med school entrance exam in jeopardy, considering it added about 50% to the final aggregate. It ruined my confidence and I couldn't bring myself to cover the course. As a result, I didn't do well in my MCAT. Like an idiot, I decided to take a gap year while still lacking the discipline to follow a proper schedule. I realized this 15 days before the exam and FINALLY straightened up my study techniques... Too late as I was only able to cover one out of 6 subjects. Scored slightly better than the previous year but still fell short in the final merit. I'm lost now. I have absolutely zero interest in any other field and I finally have the discipline to study for the MCAT. However, I'm not sure what I should do. Going through the toughest phase of my life tbh. Pray for me, please. [Edit: Spelling]

    Found your channel on my page a couple days ago , and man am i thankful that i did, they're extremely helpful, i'm currently in 12th grade preparing for neet ug , although i am able to manage the preparation (mostly) i was worried if i'd be able to keep up with the other organised and hard working students once i get into college, since i haven't had to put too much effort until now, hopefully i'll inculcate good study habits in med school

    @Zuna's Logic , Brother i have just faced the same, but small thing to correct i haven't taken a long term. Firstly many a things are faced in the exam abt which most of them who crack exam dont talk abt, so i wrote medical entrance exam for the first time, and i was well prepared , and then i faced time related issues ......most of the people say exam is for 3 hrs ...trust me bro pls dont listen to them , exam has formalities and this takes abt half and hour ........and due that i lost confidence in the middle of the exam, i was completely broken.. ....my exam got ruined.........And now first thing i would suggest you is better take a break for abt 10 days atleast ...try to forget abt the past in those 10 days ...ik its hard but still its just for ur mental health ....do exercise daily involving meditation ..... as ajay sir said pls share this with someone who can help to .....and as mentioned by you , that " i have absolutely zero interest in any other field and I finally have the discipline to study for the MCAT"....the best thing i would say either try to whole heartedly accept past , try not to repeat mistakes which u have done and do ur best this time.....or try to go for some para medical courses ...so ur into the same field........AYYOOO ITS TIME TO ROCK MY FRIEND

  • @shreeramhegde
    @shreeramhegde Жыл бұрын

    Idk but I followed this automatically on my own lmao.. In school (like before 10th grade) the first thing u told like not having broad idea about what we are actually studying was a big problem.. teachers just thought us random stuff I guess they did follow some idea but never thought of informing us about it.. I personally found it pretty bad way of doing it(Teachers in my 10th grade were pretty bad with few exceptions).. so at the age when I actually started having interest in academics I did this and never thought it was something not everyone followed coming to the 2nd one I don't write it on a paper but when you start a new topic or something.. don't u know in overall main subject you're studying where this particular topic stands.. even if you don't its usually given in introduction part of the book.. its usually hard to go through a topic without knowing stuff like this I think The Feynman technique I follow something similar which is after reading through the topic making it a familiar topic or giving a summary of it in my own head etc I mainly thought of it as the summary or what I actually think of the subject is informal way of saying it and people usually have stuff in their head in an informal way to make sure I understand everything I just read.. whereas the same subject written on the paper is a formal way of writing it which is necessary..(I guess everyone knows why formal things like science books are many times formal)
