Does anyone find physical paper books more enjoyable than e books?

I hate ebooks. I much prefer hard cover paper in hand.... and I love the smell of a brand new book.

You can do keyword search in e-books. Older people are less tired, if listening to audiobooks. For example I have Ben Greenfield's "Boundless" all three formats and use them all. To get a good overview listening two times suits me. After that I use e-book's keyword search to find, what you need in specific moment and physical book has pleasant layout to read. I use one Kindle only for reading Daily Stoic a page a day. It is more convenient than large and heavy paper copy.

started using e-books in college, where i´ve had scripts in my ipad and got soo used to just carry "small" gadget instead of tons of big and heavy books, plus i love that you can easily copy/search/highlight anythink you need without carrying another pens of different colours

My life has been much more enjoyable and purposeful since Ryan showed me about the stoics. I’ve read the obstacle is the way, and then meditations, and then discipline is destiny. He really changed the game for me and I feel like I’m just starting this new journey

Audible on my daily commute. Ebook on my phone during breaks. 2 hours of reading in the evenings.

The bit about quitting books is something I really needed to hear I think. For far too long I've been getting stuck in books that just don't stimulate me and the completionist in me refuses to move on which costs me more learning opportunities with books I need to be reading.

I've applied your "The Obstacle is the Way" to my life and it's changed my life dramatically. I made a little "The Obstacle is the way" "reminder" card that I have on my table where I write and occasionally eat, so it's in my face! I now look for the learning that any obstacle (big or small) is trying to teach me, and that learning is always a priceless gift of empowerment in some way. Thank you Ryan!

suggestion read "building a second brain" It has a section on reading on a Kindle, highlighting, and then exporting to a "second brain" so that you can access the information later (hopefully) with ease. It also talks about organizing the material you've (Read, listened to Podcasts, Audiobooks, Videos....)

It's always a good day when I discover Ryan to be talking about books - especially books that delve into philosophical issues.

I find throughout the years that books talk to and of other books. It’s almost organic the ties that bind and expand your knowledge. Authors referencing other books, authors and quotes foster an interest in those other threads of knowledge and stories that inspired the author of the book you’re presently reading. But I also have come to realize most profoundly how little I know the more I read. But what I marvel at the most is the unquenchable Chasm of knowledge and ideas that exists in the World, and how anyone can articulate there imaginations from mind to pen and paper. It’s astonishing!

Amazing this information is free. Thank you Ryan! The hardest thing I heard was interpretation of current events by comparing to past (plagues, insurrection, election results, etc...). People believe 2 realities in America right now. You'd have to pick reliable sources for each perspective (that's inline with what Ryan just said)...Then compare to the past. Exhausting unless you have copious amounts time. From a bandwidth perspective, I think most of us have to pick topics to focus on. I enjoy psychology, spirituality and philosophy most.... essentially how humans navigate these areas. My 2 cents. Take care all.

Knowledge is King

I absolutely love audiobooks. I buy very few physical copies of books.

I think it’s most important to read books that’s are contrary to and challenge your own beliefs. You should most scrutinize and question the beliefs you have had the greatest conviction. Welcome scrutiny and debate. This will either strengthen your convictions or question your loyalty to them and adjust your views accordingly.

I wish I could find a master/mentor in my field just trying best to follow people like you on KZread.

I set the rule 1 page a day. Also you will be suprised how fast you go trough a book if you just read while you need to wait. For example if you need to wait for the bus or wait for the people that make you wait. Then the time that looked waisted becomes good reading time. 😊

❤❤ 2012 to 2020. I worked in jeffersonville indiana, Mishawaka indiana, elkhart indiana , Shepardville Kentucky and waxahachie Texas. I would locate local Waffle House and read from 4am to 8am. Then go to work. I would visit old book stores, Today, i read from 4 to 6am. I read three books at a time and read one chapter from each book. This has worked and I love finding good writers. Downey california. Surfer Frank the last book store downey town Los Angeles 😂😂😂

"Focus Only On What You Can Control"

I am retired, but when I was a manager I had an individual come up to me and said, "Why are you learning a new computer language? This company will not pay you to spend learning a new language or using it here." My reply was, "That may be true, but the next company I interview with will when I show them programs in that language showing that I can." In this day and age we are all building a knowledge base through self-initiative through reading and applying what you learn that define our experience and that is what makes each of us marketable. It is not doing the least you can or resisting ownership that is of no value to a given company. Software and hardware is updated every three years so we must be open enough to expand our learning throughout our entire life. Having a college degree defines a fixed point in time that will eventually age you out of the business environment. I am coming back to Stoicism after 50 years (since 1972-73) and I feel like I am returning to this to understand this from a new perspective.

Read books in any way you enjoy best. Paper, ebook and audio it all gets into your brain the same as long as your focused on it.

I agree with Ryan that a reader must get the book, but for some of us that wouldn't be possible without our local library: Books are often a luxury in a life full of monetary necessities. Without my library I wouldn't be able to read Arnold Schwarzenegger's book Be Useful 7 Tools for Life, as I am now. The how the book is obtained is not the point, rather that the books is read.

I’ll end up rereading a chapter if it is good or if I get to the end of it and I have no clue of what I just read 😂

I had the same problem so I decided to keep a notebook nearby while reading. I look at it as studying, when I read something I think is important, I write it down. Writing makes it much easier to remember and also you can read your notes now and then to remind yourself of the important stuff from the book.

I’ve watched a lot of videos about reading. Something that comes up frequently is we shouldn’t read with an inner voice. Sounding each word in our heads. Is really a thing? How can we read without speaking each word? Would we understand it? Does anyone here read without the inner voice?

There is too much information in this video so I am going to take just 2 things that is our problems are not unique it's happening for many thousands of years. And the other point is that not reading is ungrateful because many people have worked hard to get to the point that there is wide variety of books available.

or maybe you just can´t see them. You can have many tutors and they can be even dead or far far away. For instance my tutor is Ryan, even if i´ve never met him, he chaged and is changing my life every day with his mails and houghts and books and book recomendations.
