    Hi Nils, any advice how to stay stable once bearing away? On that downwind course you’re faster than the waves and you obviously go over them (while standing right above your gear, which still is somewhat uncomfortable to me). I have had several times that the board would catch a wave with the windward rail which got me out of balance (and I tend to get into a defensive stance trying to avoid catapults, but by that I’m killing the speed). Any special tips, of is is “ just go for it” (and hope for the best ;-). Thanks for all the effort you punt into these video’s and thanks to the all our windsurfing friends who comment on these video’s helping each other. What a fantastic sport it is to us all!

    I did 30.2 knots yesterday on my old Isonic 122 with a 32 weed fin and a 7.3 Duotone S-pace. Totally out of control in harsh chop just stepping the pedal and hoping for the best. The biggest challenge is not really equipment, I have done + 30 knots on wave sails and freeride boards. The biggest challenge is to find a spot, where you have plenty of strong wind in the right direction - and NO chop or waves. All the best Per - Denmark

    My first 30kts, I reached with an over 30 years old 88l Board with a rondom GFK fin. The rigg was as old as the board. It felt like racing with an oldtimer 150km/h and the whole car is rattling. haha

    Absolutely fantastic content! All your tutorials are so worthwhile. I hit my 30+ on a medium slalom board and in the right circumstances can indeed replicate. Now it's time to hit 35+ but I need a small slalom board for that. After achieving that I might consider a speed board.

    small slalomboard should be good for that, or look into bigger speedboards (~52-56cm) they feel a lot like slalomboard as well!

    Suuuuper helpful! I have been on the right track with nearly all that you presented. Can't wait to get back in the water in a month or so. I feel I may be on too big a sail for my weight and board size so will be looking to get a good slalom sail around 6.2.

    Nice tutorial! Maybe one thing to add, which isn’t to technical, is having the right amount of downhaul. I see al lot of people with just not enough downhaul, this makes te sail heavy and inefficient with the result of slowing you down. So crank that downhaul!

  • @WindsurfingNils

    @WindsurfingNils

    Very true, prob. I use 1cm more downhaul compared to what most slalom guys use.

    Excellent advice on an excellent subject. Interestingly I just bought a smaller fin for my Fox105 specifically to be able to go faster. The board is 65cm wide, and I got a 32cm fin. I can sometimes get just over 30knots, I think I'll do better using some of the technique you are talking about here. Thank you for the great advice!!

    That was very useful ! How much do you think weight affects your top speed ? I'm 58kg, (7m sail and 90l board) and i really feel i miss some weight to go really fast. I can reach around 27/28 knots in 20 knots of wind, but i need almost 25knots to go past 30. I also felt i missed some lift with a S1 slam, just got an ERD carbon fin, which i'm stoked to try :D

  • @WindsurfingNils

    @WindsurfingNils

    2 жыл бұрын

    weight is a huge factor, for example i will probably never be able to be as fast as the 2m 100kg Speedguys, so better to compare yourself to others in your weight class! on the bright side you will be able to go onto smaller equipment much quicker! I had the S1 Slam many years back, and yeah it does not give good lift ;) however once you go down that journey prepare to spend a lot of money on carbon fins ;)

    35kts on oldskool gear; f2 thommen 285 (110L 51wide) and NP VX3 6.3 (7 battens 7 cambers) you dont necessarily need new gear to be fast 🤙

  • @WindsurfingNils

    7 cambers??? i guess that sail has a sweetspot but will be superdifficult in overpowered conditions no? however great speed with that, would be cool to take a couple of my dads antique boards on a speedspot sometimes and see how fast i can go on those!

    @ernstmathijssen033

    @@WindsurfingNils definitely try it. In max speed the old boards aren't too far off from modern boards just harder to control due to length.. and as far as overpowered sailing: hook in and hold on for dear life 😂😂
