This works for rekeying Home Depot brand Defiant locks as well. Just buy the $12 Kwikset rekey kit at Home Depot. Has enough for 6 locks. The instructions with the kit are correct for the deadbolt but incorrect for the doorknob this video showed me what I needed finish the job. Thanks!

Thank you for the informative videos... Son just bought a new house with about 9 different locks and gave us about 30 keys that fit every lock.... we bought new locks and installed them all but had to wait on the defiant rekey kit to arrive to rekey them all to one key for them. This will be so helpful tonight when i try my hand at rekeying them all. Fingers crossed!

Well, after telling myself several times to not forget to use the tube for top springs..... i forgot to use tube!!!! Springs went everywhere!! Lol. Luckly i had an extra lock set! Fixed that mess and changed out 8 more locks to one key! Thanks again for the video!!!

I appreciate this, guys from hd i had install new doors but didnt set the locks, so i had to get the kit. Would it be the same for deadbolts and lever door handles?

Looked up the Kwikset rekey kit at HD, 150$, said 5 or 6 locks so figure 5 and if you do all 5 you are just breaking even...maybe and go broke doing only your Front/back. But I did see a 12$kit on Amazon that said up to 5 or 6 but there was a small amount of tumbler pins and I doubt you'd do more than 2, but it has the tools too. There was also for 24$ 4 or 5 bags of tumblr pins, at least 25 per bag, so you could do a bunch buying those kits. Great tutorial, thank you. I guess I wouldn't expect Kwikset or the others to make this rekey set affordable, otherwise how could the sell you the over priced rekeyable door knobs.

What size is that little plastic pvc you use to slide through the cylinder?

I have a defiant door knob lock but it's slightly different. The cylinder doesn't just slide out. Can you help?

Kwikset does not make defiant locks they are home depot branded locks. they only use a KW1 key. but the pin tumblers are a different size than Kwikset pins.so a Defiant key cut number 5 is a Kwikset number 4 pin. and so on down the line.

What if you do not have the original key, what other steps to do this easily?
