Your son has done an exemplary job of making the enclosure. I’m thinking of adding pigeons to my home. I too wouldn’t let them out but not because of predators but because I don’t want them pooping on my roof which is my water supply. Awesome video.

Cool guys, two things i would do is make sure the roof is longer on the sides to help block the rains it can make the floor wet n make the birds sick, second u should build a raise floor to stop the birds from eating foods that falls on poop that way the birds dont eat their own poop n u guys dont step on poop too, anyways good luck i raise pigeon since i was 10 yrs old all by my self.

I'm so glad you were inspired to get your own flock. Pigeons are great birds to raise and low maintenance. They are very hardy birds. They did well even when the weather is very hot and cold. Are your birds mainly pets?

Ive adopted one of these little darlings yesterday...he was scared stiff and cowaring in the corner, got a feed from a local vets, hes super affectionate 🙂🙂 he sleeps like slèep is going out of fashion though lol

Nice coop! They're fun to have and let out eventually to fly around. Just be careful of the Hawks. Let them out after they are in for a few months and have raised some youngsters. Never let the coop open at night or all day without someone being around. Safe travels and God bless you all!

Greetings!! Ohhh, I would love to have 340 pigeons. My goal is to have a much larger flock one day. I would love to hear more about how you raise your pigeons in Egypt and am open to doing some things differently. Do you raise them for meat consumption or something else? We're not able to let our pigeons out because of predators. Since raising them I realize they are incredible birds that I think gets a bad reputation here in the states.

@@stepbystepfarming2686 Well, at first I started raising pigeons because of my love towards them but when it got a little bigger I started to sell and buy like some kind of business, the thing is with pigeons, they are not a stable or a guaranteed income so you can rely on them as a real business, especially on the states and countries that doesn't really respect this hobby, but here in Egypt we have alot of people that actually made their own business raising pigeons, Also most of my pigeons are too expensive just to consume, like a pair could cost me around 170$ to 500$ if I wanna eat them 😂😂😂 Therefore, I can get much cheaper pigeons thats actually raised just for the sake of consumers, they can cost around 5$ to 20$ for a pair 😊❤️

Thanks for your comment. Because you asked, I'll be doing more videos on the pigeons. We're still raising them but we don't have enough that we're ready to eat yet. I plan to do an interview with the breeder we bought them from in the near future so please stay tuned.

nice work! i would not leave the feed out though. Rats... can spread disease and they will crawl through your chicken wire. Feed them twice a day by hand - it gets them tamer anyways :)

I love Pigeon Congee ,its light but gamey taste,

little children and elderly seem to like to see them fly around , different colors and some have feathers on their feet . neighbors can them pick out individuals .. have some that are mostly cuz i almost couldn't wake for about 6 months and they got me to go out every day . once the coop is built ( can be almost free other than time )a very cheap hobby . were more pigeons that got awarded metal in ww2 from u.s.a. than any other animal even dogs. some will fallow you around and watch you if you let them.

This is our first time raising pigeons. We are trying to become as self-sustainable as possible. That's the purpose of this channel which is to help others as well. Our main purpose is meat consumption and manure to fertilize our gardens. They are great birds to raise.

Ideally they can have up to 2 eggs per month. We've noticed that the parents will feed the squabs 2-3 weeks before they are able to feed themselves. Thanks for watching!!

Egypt, and other Middle Eastern countries also have Pigeons on their menus. If all systems fail, I think pigeons could raised like Chickens to supplement protein needs. @@claudiasimpson4386 I have found that pigeons are a typical source of meat in other countries. The US is not use to that type of meat. I. I am still new with raising pigeons but from my research I would say the utility pigeon or the utility king pigeon are the best sources of meat for consumption. They are fast breeders and have quite a bit of meat. That's exciting about your interest. Please keep me updated.

@@abdAlmajedSaleh doves are the same family but basically are called different things. domesticated breeds of dove can rarely breed with domesticated pigeons so are different species. Most domesticated doves are javan/laughing doves which are whats typically seen as the white magicians doves. doves are less hardy that domesticated pigeons so the garden doves you may see in someones garden out and about are likely a white breed of domesticated pigeon. like all doves are pigeons but not all pigeons are doves haha

@@stepbystepfarming2686 Just feed them enough where the will consume all of the feed in about 20 minutes. Nothing left. It keeps them a bit hungry but will not leave left overs. Unless you have a feed trough with wire tops. Google foys pigeons supplies. You do have a nice setup. Like the way the nest boxes are put in place. Have fun and enjoy the birds.

I checked and French Mondaine pigeons reach sexual maturity as early as 7 months. I'd say, give it a little more time.

Two pigeon couples came to my house after I gave them food and water , I gave them food and water for 1 week and now they have come to mate on our giant plant pots.

Can you explain what their nest looks like? What are you keeping them in? Have you checked on them in the evening time? Our pigeons perch a lot during the day but in the evening they all go back to their nest.

It is tin so it can become warm. Ours is so open and ventilated that we really can not tell the difference. We used tin because it’s thin and lasts longer than wood. Thanks for your question!

A friend of mine has recently started keeping pigeons as pets, and he's wondering about some things: First of all, what kind of things can they eat besides corn? He tried corn and they didn't seem very keen on it. It was in like a mixed seed feed for pet birds, and the pigeons picked out the corn and ignored it. Secondly, do they need any kind of entertainment/habitat enrichment? And if so, would the kind of cage toys you get for parrots be of interest to them?

We had a bird mix as well, and we added corn to it. They didn’t like the shelled corn either. So, we scrapped the corn. We now add sunflower seeds. They love it more than anything else. Yes parrot toys are great. They mostly keep busy with each other because they are community birds! That’s awesome that he is keeping them as pets. If he keeps them outside he MUST spend lots of time with them!!

@@miguelsmith4703 Thanks for your comment however, upon talking with my breeder and raising pigeons myself (plus google is amazing), it is correct that on AVERAGE the eggs will hatch within 18 days. I suppose it's possible it could hatch in 21 days but +3 days is not something I make a big issue of.

I adore birds and I especially love pigeons, I’m a native New Yorker so I’m used to seeing them all over. I currently have 6 coturnix quails but I’m hoping one day to get pigeons, they’re lovely and beautiful birds. Their setup is amazing, it’s incredible that your son was able to build that from scratch with no blueprints at all. And the slanted roof is a great idea as well as the little shelves on the wall for them to perch. It’s also really heartwarming to see how your daughter handles them so gently and clearly has respect and love for them. I’ve been a huge animal lover since I was a child, and I’m now majoring in zoology because animals are my passion, and I think it’s always great when kids are taught to handle animals respectfully and not just grab them and treat them like toys. Seeing a young child understand that they’re living beings and treating them so gently just makes me so happy!

We no longer feed them corn. They never ate it anyway. The love sunflower seeds!! Yes they can get disease if they eat from the floor and poop on them. We actually changed what they were eating because they can be very wasteful!

It is said to have flat, platforms bcs they can't sit comfortably on perches! It may be tough with the poop to have flat areas, but important for their poor little feet? Have you heard that?

I haven't heard that but we have a 2x6 board in our coop that they like to perch on.

I just want to let you know that pigeons do not mate for life they constantly break up and get all the mates and they do it all the time it's normal for them

@@cameraguy9800 Well, you could put the baby pigeon outside with the parakeets and keep an eye on it to see how they react. I'd only leave it alone for short periods of time (watching the whole time of course incase you have to get it away quickly)

Two year old video I'm commenting on but the reason your bird looks like a dove is because pigeons are doves! And doves are pigeons, scientifically they're the same birds, in the same family. These though are domestic pigeons, which just have the common name pigeon.

Hi, I'm interested in having a pair of pigeons as pets, but I don't want them to have lots of babies. I know you're supposed to take the eggs and dispose of them, and replace with fake eggs, but I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of killing the eggs. :( What do you do about this problem?

I'd agree..that's a hard one. I would feel the same way to dispose of the eggs. If they are mates, you're going to have that problem. What if you only have 1 for a pet instead of a pair?

I have only spent a little time with them and I have already seen one peck and flap at the other. This was the first time I heard vocalization from either of them. I wonder if they are not going to like each other.

Where did you buy the pigeons, do you raise them for meat?

We bought our pigeons from a breeder a couple years ago. Yes our pigeons are for meat only. We do have a couple that we don't. A lot of people don't realize how nutritious and delicious they are.

@@heheardmycry478 How much are they costing? We found ours from a breeder that was charging $6 each. That was a deal. I'm not sure where you live but maybe you could check around with some local farmers to see if they have any resources give you.

@@stepbystepfarming2686 I couldnt find eggs I guess they're not popular in Michigan but I looked online they wanted $190 for a pair. I look online again for eggs only I'm really interested in adding as meat because your finished product got my stomach growling lol

all of the "doves" that get released at weddings? are white homing pigeons.

You are correct.

They need mineral grit and some oyster shell.

They're very easy to take care of.

I have a pair and every time they hatch 2 babies only one lives

We have the same thing. We notice the parents focus on the stronger one. We actually have hand raised some of them ourselves.

Pigeons are pretty hardy even in the winter. We put clear plastic over the sides so the wind didn't affect them. We left the front uncovered so they could get plenty of ventilation. Other than that, they did well.
