How to raise a baby praying mantis. Nymph care!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Raising a praying mantis is really fun! A lot of nymphs will hatch from the mantis egg. It's probably best just to keep one or two the rest can go in your yard! I hope this helps you with your mantis babies! Also, I said in the video that it's not necessary for them to eat the first couple of days. But the first thing they do is start to look for food. So you should probably give them some. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Feeding winged fruit flies. Put banana mash in a small bowl inside a jar. To feed, put the jar in the refrigerator and when the flies are down take it out. Then remove the bowl, leaving the flies in the jar.

Okay thanks! The way I breed them now is just over watering a plant 😅 and that's usually on accident...

Thank you for the tips on the fruit flies, I recently got an ootheca from a garden center (sold as pest control) and was confused on how to keep the fruit flies from going everywhere!

There are several different fruit fly types available in pet stores that are flightless. They're a LOT easier to deal with and can be bread easily with a little bit of mashed up fruit/flour/sugar/vinegar/yeast mix. Some even use potato flakes (like dried mashed potatoes), sugar and yeast or simply beer. There are many recipes. Will probably be a very late hint, but may help someone in the future.

You could maybe do a small piece of damp paper towel. Honestly I've never done that before but I think it would work. Just make sure it doesn't get moldy. The humidity for nymphs should be 70 to 80% RH. (◠‿◕)

Try to mimic their natural habitat the best you can. Check the humidity level of the area you found him and maybe grab some of the dirt. Give him the biggest container you can without losing him. Then make sure it has good ventilation.
