How to raise a baby praying mantis. Nymph care!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Raising a praying mantis is really fun! A lot of nymphs will hatch from the mantis egg. It's probably best just to keep one or two the rest can go in your yard! I hope this helps you with your mantis babies! Also, I said in the video that it's not necessary for them to eat the first couple of days. But the first thing they do is start to look for food. So you should probably give them some. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Feeding winged fruit flies. Put banana mash in a small bowl inside a jar. To feed, put the jar in the refrigerator and when the flies are down take it out. Then remove the bowl, leaving the flies in the jar.

Okay thanks! The way I breed them now is just over watering a plant 😅 and that's usually on accident...

It’s it’s captive, it’s better to buy and feed the fruit flies… a lot easier too
i accidentaly found one in my room and now i feel obligated to take care of it. little dude is so cool!

Sounds like destiny to me. Like Ash Ketchum and Pikachu, but different.
Had no idea there was an ootheca on my window and I saw tens of them all over my blinds so now I have a responsibility to care for them

Aw, how cute! Congrats 🎉
My daughter just hatched 200 of these lol. They are doing great
I had an adult mantis, it was a great pet , so easy to take care . Later she lay egg and after a month died. Now i have to take care these little fellas. It's so frustrating. Having really hard time to feed them
Thank you for the tips on the fruit flies, I recently got an ootheca from a garden center (sold as pest control) and was confused on how to keep the fruit flies from going everywhere!

Awesome! I don't know how to get them from garden centers. That's really cool.

There are several different fruit fly types available in pet stores that are flightless. They're a LOT easier to deal with and can be bread easily with a little bit of mashed up fruit/flour/sugar/vinegar/yeast mix. Some even use potato flakes (like dried mashed potatoes), sugar and yeast or simply beer. There are many recipes. Will probably be a very late hint, but may help someone in the future.

I have one in a jar facing sideways. There is a few leaves and a piece of ivy. I put a firefly in, but the mantis can't catch it. I also don't want to waste fruit. Can I catch anything outside?
Would it be safe to use a paper towel instead of moss?
Thanks I just bread prime mantis so I need this
what can I do if I don't have fresh moss?:(
@PlatyCove
Жыл бұрын
You could maybe do a small piece of damp paper towel. Honestly I've never done that before but I think it would work. Just make sure it doesn't get moldy. The humidity for nymphs should be 70 to 80% RH. (◠‿◕)
Hey bro, is there anything else I could use other than moss? Like grass or anything else from my garden?
@moozy9157

I bet a wet sponge would bring moisture, I used a wet paper towel when my baby mantises hatched but now I'm using moss
I was feeding a praying mantis for a month the it disapeared . It was hanging on my curtain for a whole while . Fast forward this morning i saw about close to 60 if not more baby mantises i moved them all to the garden im here to see if they need care or will they survive

If i found a praying mantis in a desert, what should i change about this container
@PlatyCove

Try to mimic their natural habitat the best you can. Check the humidity level of the area you found him and maybe grab some of the dirt. Give him the biggest container you can without losing him. Then make sure it has good ventilation.

Will there be fruit flies larvae.. in the trap?

You definitely will want to hope there is. If there's larva, that means more fruit flies.

@@LatteCookies_Spoon probably. You can feed them mosquito larvae.
So these will only eat live prey

From my experience, yeah.
i guess the feeding part is confusing me. live food, but kill them in the refrigerator? or just lower temps so they can't move? verification needed.

Just lower temps so they can't move. Sorry this is one of my old videos and I could have been way more clear on things 😆 But oh well, you learn as you make more.
Do they eat small black ants?

Please don’t feed a mantis ants. Ants contain formic acid. They repel mantids.
What about other small insects like a ant
@PlatyCove

I have found that they don't eat ants ┐( ∵ )┌

There’s a toxin in ants that repel mantids from eating them. A mantis eating ants would not be a good idea.
