Just found one today made it a little terrarium I was outside playing guitar when he just started chillin with me
One of my earliest childhood memories is my mother finding one of their cocoons and putting it inside, on our covered porch, I think she wanted to give me a little lesson on nature. The cocoon “hatched” and we had a gazillion teeny little preying mantises all over the porch! I’ve loved them ever since. Yesterday I was spraying a plant I have outside with insecticidal soap - which is a non toxic somewhat effective killer of mealy bugs and aphids and spider mites. Suddenly a preying mantis popped out from under a leaf….I ran and got a spray bottle of distilled water and gave him a little shower, hopefully rinsing any of the insecticidal soap off of him, then put him in another plant. He sat on a petunia flower and preened himself for about a half hour. Seemed like he was ok. I got some great photos. Just want to add, if you are going to keep one as a pet, get a bigger home for him. If I were a preying mantis, I wouldn’t want to live in that “necklace” aquarium.
This is actually helpful. I've had a bunch of them hatch on my balcony (no idea where they came from), most of them just left, one got eaten by a spider when they were about half a centimeter long, and one is still alive today and measures about 3 cm, hiding among my plants and eating all the bugs she can catch. I always mist the plants with a water spray, so now I know how often I shall do it.
I fed my two inch long green male mantis a spider almost the same size as the mantis first i thought the mantis might die cause i saw the spider making silk the mantis might get trapped but tje skills of a mantis never fails
Thank you for sharing!
I buy them and unleash them in my hibiscus plants they keep off all the bugs and look pretty cool chilling around the garden.
really liked the video helped alot truly thank you mate

@@Neromacewell I’m estimating there’s a whole bunch that crawl out of each sack. How I got the sacks? I bout 2 online and another at Lowe’s at the time i originally commented. I had since bought another from Lowe’s that was already hatched. After all that I see only a few that actually stuck around from the first batches that are now about 2inches.

@@user-nc8se9in8o -Wow! You could start a home business to help organic gardeners. We never had any in our area that I knew of until a local feed store started selling containers of babies in the spring. Now they are EVERYWHERE!
I am here because I'm in Northwest Montana my snowshoe cats just found one tonight around 9:30 p.m. they are not native to this area. I walk a lot never seen one also know a lot about bugs and no they don't live in Montana I have one just just uploaded a video of it trying to figure out what I need to do to feed it there's a fly inside of its container and I just put a little bit of water obviously they blend into the surroundings because everything is like dry fields and he looks exactly like dry grass. I'm just fascinated thank you I'll probably be watching a lot more because I would like to learn how to actually keep this guy or girl it's probably a girl it is full grown it has wings they're very big and long but I can't tell you I've only watched this video I'm going to watch some more. 🕯️👍🕯️

SO.... I just caught a baby praying mantis, he's extremely tiny and brown with the long antennas and everything. BUT IT CAN FLY. It has wings!! Can someone please explain how this is scientifically possible? I had a praying mantis before who was bigger but couldn't fly, only jump. How?
I'm raising Mediterranean Mantids from birth. A surprising number of them are dying. I think the problem may be their inability to digest food. One just ate a fly for more than an hour and its abdomen doesn't seem to show any food in it. It's like it's not fully swallowing the fly and can't finish eating it, as if it's like a human being trying to eat a hamburger with no liquid to wash it down. I'm in Las Vegas. They've survived 120 degrees and months without rain. I was told that they didn't need to drink any water because they got enough from their food, so I haven't been giving them any water. They don't seem to be molting as often as I had expected. Could lack of water explain their difficulty molting and swallowing?

This was rated thumbs down because you didnt talk about how many times a dayand how much to feed them. And misting them more often is actually important for the humidity so that they can molt. Biggest threats and most common deaths are from dehydration and bad molting.
