That movement is normal. It is bad if the tensioner does not move, that means it could be frozen in place and not applying the correct tension to the belt. Different pulleys are constantly applying different pressure to the belt, stretching and contracting it ever so slightly, the tensioner just moves around to take up the slack.

Spilled a little bit of coolant on nearby belt and pulley, it's ok to use water and wet towel to clean it right? Will that be able to clean it off so I wont' have squeal in the future. few drops on belt and many accumulated at a pulley. Havn't driven it yet.

Would this happen to work with a 2002 Suburban? My belt has just a low squeak to it on idle after I sprayed some belt dressing on it, until it warms up and that noise is gone. However, when I start to accelerate, the belt starts to squeal pretty good, but not loud. Just enough to hear it really which makes it annoying.

"Carburetor cleaner" cleans as well as "Brake cleaner" but is not as harsh on plastics and rubbers. So to not dry out or damage anything from spraying or even the over spray it's best to use card cleaner.

I cleaned my pulleys with brake cleaner and a brush.. took belt off and cleaned in a 5 gal bucket with dawn dish soap scrubbed by hand, rinsed thoroughly.. let dry for 30 mins in the sun.. but all back together...super quiet.. then this morning, not cold it's summer but cooler.. the chirp is back.. ug.. the pulleys are lined up fine.. all looks good belt is almost new, no cracks on grooved side, no fraying, it's beyond frustrating, changing my intake manifold was easier, it works, I got antifreeze on the belt/pulleys.. I'll clean again with carb cleaner.. and repeat the process if the belt doesn't quiet down, when it's warm no squeaks so that might mean the belt is still slipping a bit when it's cold? tensioner is new, idler new.. new alternator a yr or so.. charging 14v .. never had any issues with my f150 5.4L as far as belt noise.. nice video, easy and to the pt. Thanks

I guess I can't just do it without removing the belt? It is a 2000 Chevy Astro and it is a real pain to remove and reinstall the serpentine belt. I just recently replaced the crack radiator and probably spill some coolant onto belt. i.e. did not notice the squeal until after this procedure. Squeal is loudest and steady at rpm's above idle and almost not detectable at idle.
