Outstanding idea. Well executed too. I made my own lift as well. I used rustys coils. Rubicon express junkyard lower short arms. Rocky road outfitters track bar.iro spacer and brace for steering box and heavy duty solid tie rod. Recently scored a set of 3 and 1/2 in rear leafs by pro comp from the junkyard. All told under 400 on the lift. All parts can be rebuilt by me from stock parts. Anywhere in the usa..from any parts stores.

I know this is an older video but this is for everybody looking into doing this mod or removing original bolts in general. Take a map gas torch, one of the little handheld ones, and heat the head of the bolt for about 30 to 45 seconds before you start trying to remove it. Once you start taking it out go two cranks left and one crank right over and over until it's loose. You may have to heat the head of the bolts 1 or 2 more times depending on how long it is.

Seems like you spent around the same amount of money in the end as you would have for a xj bumper. I was thinking about this same thing but i only have a 110 welder and with the cost of steel i think ill just get an xj bumper.

Do you know how long and how wide the brackets were before you modified them. Im curious wha the total length and width was out of the box? I scored a front and rear jk bumper for free but i have little to no money to make this work. I have access to metal and a welder. Just curious what length to cut the metal at.

Do you have measurements of how far from the xj regular bracket sticks out?

I took a measurement real quick....The front 2 bumper bracket bolts (on the frame) are a tad over 6.5" from the front of the new bracket (where the bumper mounts). Hope that helps!

How much would you charge for those brackets?

Ask your father to make a dozen of these and they will fly off his hands! I don't want to shell out $500 for a bumper that looks like it was made by a 12 yo. All this while JK owner can spend as little as $250 for a bumper that looks like it was designed by a team from NASA!

What kind of lift do you have on it? How many parts came in the lift you got? With so many lifts that some consider you have to change certain parts and others that feel they don't need it, what did you go with to feel safe if you daily it or highway travel.

The lift is kind of a hodge-podge of different brands. But its basically just a short arm 4" lift...I picked each part individually to to suit my needs and budget.

@@theprojecthomestead5623 much appreciated on the reply. Did you have to use an adjustable track bar on a 4" lift? Any driveline vibrations? Sye? I'm about to lift mine 3" and so many people saying you need this and that with many "kits" that are considered incomplete, just trying to see all you had to use to make it road worthy without death wobble. Thanks.

Yep.....and welding in corners along with if the metal has been magnetized makes DC current blow out of corners and push away from seams...best option is use the AC current position on the welder. I've got one of those 110 volt welders and you've got to use the smallest dia rod at max amps and make a root pass with two cap passes. My Miller 220 Syncrowave with wire feed works best though.
