The purl stitch is a foundational building block of knitting.
It may seem like a complicated stitch, but that's simply not true. In fact, the purl stitch is the exact opposite of the knit stitch.
Once you've mastered the knit and purl stitch, you'll be able to knit a whole world of stitches, like rib stitch, seed stitch, stockinette stitch and more!
In this in-depth video tutorial you'll learn how to knit the purl stitch step-by-step.
After the demo, we'll go through the anatomy of a purl stitch and discover it's secret double identity as ... a knit stitch! Intrigued? Let's get started!

@@Hello-hb3nh I went really slow when I first started knitting. When I watched this video I did the steps with Devina as she did them. I accidentally dropped the stitch a lot but I kept practicing. I didn't follow a pattern when I first learned either, I did 10 stitches across and continued that until I got the stitch down. So all I can say is go slow, keep practicing, and if you get really frustrated then it's okay to put your project down and come back to it. I hope that helps, you can do this.

The ancient world had such a deep respect for this art form, from the weavers of fate to Athena's contest with Arachne. It's even possible that one ancient Egyptian creation myth had Neith - the goddess of weaving - literally knit the world into existence. I loved the way you touched on that with the Roman Janus at the end.

I can't believe how perfect this tutorial was and how amazing some of your other ones are. I literally was crying because I couldn't seem to follow a different video that others said was the best thing they could find and then I found this video and was so relieved to have someone that truly is a great teacher and wants to help others thank you so much

OMGosh! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been trying to learn the purl stitch for 30 years or so…you know, before KZread. I just could not understand the pictures in the books I bought. I have mastered the knit stitch, but just couldn’t get that elusive purl stitch….until now. All thanks to you. I’m now practicing so that I can make something other than scarves.🧣 LOL 😂. Plus…you are so sweet and fun. I look forward to watching your videos and making a slouchy beanie. Love ❤️ your channel. Stay safe and I hope you have a great day.😀
