    Hi Richard, what can I say? Your collection of CBT videos are the best on KZread - and I have watched a LOT of KZread vids on this topic over the last couple of years - some are ok, some are absolutions stinkers (especially some from a certain part of the world with a more cavalier attitude to motorcycle safety and training). I have to agree with another comment here, you have a great teaching style, relaxed, yet informative and direct, with no contradiction or room for confusion. Well-filmed with clear hand movements and concise commentary - no waffle - but perhaps the best thing is that you keep to one topic per short, easily digestible clip (thumbs up emoticon here). Time will soon be up on first CBT and, lockdown permitting, I plan to complete a DAS course before having to renew for another two years. Only snag is I've been riding a scooter for eighteen months, so I have just traded the scoot for a 125 motorcycle to gain a few months experience of clutch, gears and brakes before the CBT expires - This is where you videos have proved invaluable! Thanks again. Subscribed!

    Ah this is legendary, getting first manual bike soon, I have basic idea of what to do as I have driven manual car before, and I think after a few hours on a ride out it like you say, should click.

    This is honestly the best video I’ve seen yet. Especially for some one not new to the road or driving a scooter but mainly a manual motorbike…. I’ve been struggling to pull away as I cannot get a smooth transition out from the clutch. My bike (a Yamaha xsr125) seems to overly rev ( that’s obviously me not managing to maintain a steady throttle ) but it’s been very yerky but I feel I’ve not been using a touch of back brake and I need to master throttle control. This video has very well explained the process of starts and stops but also credit is due for the angle of the camera. Great stuff.

    Great video, Thanks very much! I just passed my cbt and this is definately one area I need to practice. I have been worried about burning out the clutch - glad that's not an issue like with a car and it ending up smelling like a dead cat :D

    I did my CBT yesterday. I really wanted to do it on a 125, but to be honest I was crap and the instructor put me on a 50cc moped (which was absolutely the right call). I did pass in the end (yes I know it’s not a test etc but there are grounds on which the instructor can refuse to give you the certificate and make you come back on another day so it’s just semantics really). One aspect of riding the 125 that I found difficult was the clutch control and stopping the bike. The instructor insisted that we use both brakes to stop (front brake first) and that we apply the clutch after braking. I think it would have been a lot easier had I been permitted to use the back brake only and clutch afterwards as suggested in this video.

    Yes, much easier to begin with 1 brake and work up to 2. You're trying to juggle 3 or 4 controls at once (if you include gears) and your brain reaches task saturation very quickly. Different schools teach different methods - this is the one which we find works the best. 👍

    Just passed my CBT 2 weeks ago and was booked in for Direct Access course end of October. I have cancelled that because the CBT really opened my eyes to the whole motorbike world. So I've bought a 125cc to practice on and will look to do my full test next year. Only thing is I'm nervous about riding my 125cc be myself, any tips?

    Definitely a good idea to get some real-world experience on a 125cc bike before getting up to the big bikes.👍 Only advice is ride at your own pace, take your time at junctions & roundabouts, don't be bullied into pulling away by motorists behind until you're good and ready. Use your road positioning to make yourself more visible to motorists waiting at junctions. Never trust somebody's indicators and never, ever assume you've been seen by other road users - EVER! Enjoy. 😊👍

    Thank you Luke! Autos are certainly easier to get to grips with but if you're wanting to ride manuals then we'd certainly recommend you do the CBT on a manual. A CBT assumes no prior knowledge so don't worry. 😊👍

  • @Lets-rideUk

    @Lets-rideUk

    Usually caused by target fixation - ie. looking where you *don't* want to go - straight ahead! 😊 Look all the way up the road to your right, don't focus on the curb ahead of you, accelerate gently whilst turning and leaning. You'll get it. Try some simulated junctions in a quiet car park. 👍 Another tip is to get your bike pointing partially in the direction of the turn, so at the end of the road have the bike aimed a bit to your right. Less daunting than doing a 90° turn as a new rider not to mention if your clutch control isn't perfect yet, you stand a fighting chance of making the turn rather than careering into the curb. 👍
