Good simple explanation to a complicated electrical principle. Adjusting the gap has been addressed perfectly.

Do you have a link to the diverter shown in the video?

Sounds real good but it will never happen. I've been fixing ele. fencers for 40 years and have never seen lightning hit the fence and burn up the charger. It WILL hit the ground rod and come in that way. Simple law of physics. Lighting always follows the least resistance to ground. We all learned this in 6th grade science class. If the fence is working, it's not grounded. If there's a short in the fence it will go to the short instead of the charger. The worst thing about lightning is the electro magnetic radiation produced by the bolt of lightning. EMR is the same energy as produced by an atomic bomb, and doesn't even have to hit the fence, charger, or ground rod. Just get close and it will render the solid state electronics, in the energizer, inoperative. I've seen it many times. Open the fencer up and it looks undamaged. No burnt smell and appears to be good. Replace the solid state components on the board and it will work again. SCR's, voltage regulators, and timer transistors and IC's will be trash. I've debated this point for many years but to no avail. Go ahead, spend your money, these companies will gladly take it. That's how they make their money.

Our chargers have exploded into smithereens because of lightening. You are totally incorrect.
