I've worked for a towing company and car hauler for years. This is NOT the proper way to tie a utv/car down. You want to connect as close to the tires or use tire straps. Reason you tie down tires or closet to the tire is because of spring action. If you tie to the frame/bumper as you haul the car down the road the car will still bounce because you are not compressing the springs and you straps can loosen. When strapping tires down no matter how much your springs flex your straps will not come loose.

Agree 100%. When you ATV weights 1800+ lbs, tying to the frame with 20+ inches of travel is not ideal. Every bump will have the sxs go up and down. I have broken quite a few straps this way until I started stepping to the wheels only. Luckily only the strap was harmed and all loads arrived safely.

Suspension components are not meant to take side load. Strapping to the frame is the best and safest way to go.

Also at 2:32. Never latch the hook over the actual strap. You will def eventually damage your strap. With all do respect, I understand he thinks he's helping ppl here...but there is so much wrong with this vid. Pls don't take everything you see on KZread as Gospel.

Pro tip: never use the frame to tie anything down. The suspension is going to bounce all over and loosen and break the straps. Tie the wheel itself or as close to it as possible

I did it this way early on until I arrived and a strap was off of the D-ring. Now I use two straps. One in the front and one in the back running through the wheels to the D-rings on each side.

Can you do a Pro/Cons of straps VS Tire Nets? As well as other tie down methods, example, systems like mighty tite? Tire nets seem like a really good option for many reasons, manly because they seem to bypass the issues that other options introduce. Would love to see a well thought out reasonable comparison. As well as options for pull points for the hold downs used.

I always place the car in park while tying down to prevent any strain on the driveline, then once everything is down and secure I place the car in park just for an added safety measure in case things would go South.

@@len9483 If your straps are tight and secure the vehicle will not move enough to cause a problem. Thats the reason I tow with the vehicle in park is because if something were to come loose , or a strap would break, the transmission will help keep the vehicle from rolling off of the trailer
