How to Properly Sit in Your Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Vehicle Virgins teaches you how to properly position yourself in the drivers seat. www.vehicle-virgins.com
We at Vehicle-Virgins™ are a dedicated group of college students here to help you make one of the most important decisions of your life: buying your first car. What sets us apart from other consumer review organizations is our perspective of review; we approach the cars as any kid would, not only as a professional automotive journalist would. We take into account real-world decision factors such as budget, reliability, safety, and maintenance, but we also rate cars on their appeal to a younger market. At 19 and 20 years old, we have spent lots of time looking for our first cars, and we know what appeals to us as well as our friends.

Our mission is to guide individuals in the right direction for their first car. Vehicle-Virgins reviews popular cars that young buyers are in the market for and helps them decide if the car they are looking at is a good choice.
We are lighthearted individuals who are passionate about cars and hope you find our reviews both informative and funny.
Cheers.

    The headrest position is dangerously low in this video. In fact, it's positioned ideally for major neck damage in an accident. Otherwise, it's a great set of tips.

    Vehicle Virgins I mentioned this in another video but one of the first, most crucial adjustments you can make is moving the steering wheel closer to you so that you're not too far "on top" of the pedals. Virtually all performance cars (more like virtually all cars) have tilting and telescoping steering wheels.

  • @luvsthose8230s

    Back in the days of cars with two bench seats, this included a front seat bench. Most of those benches only moved in two directions, and did not recline. So you were forced to sit upright at the wheel. Like an example, of a ford fairmont, the base model had a low back front seat bench, and usually a stationary steering column. No thrills, so how the driver sat, and positioned the seat, the passenger would be on the exact same position. Plus with low back, everyone could see the back of head. Good times!

    Very good video. Worst thing I see is those people who sit so low you can barely see their eyes over the wheel.. I also get those remarks about sitting too "strictly" , heh.. Another thing you didn't mention is that sitting in the wrong position can really hurt your back in the long run. I worked as a Taxi driver a few years back, and If I didn't sit up almost straight, my back would be sore as hell after the day.

    Driver's side mirror adjustment: cover the blind spot? Or redundant with center mirror? Personally I prefer to cover the blind spot, as I can always lean out to see further back with it. Yet so few people do that. What are your thoughts? As I didn't see if you had a video on that little thing.

What are your thoughts?

    Can anyone recommend racing seats for short people? I'm 5 foot nothing. In my WRX I sit too low. Was gonna get a custom bracket to raise the seat higher but the side bolsters are too high for me so I'm ramming my arm into them on downshifts. Plus the bolsters are way too wide and don't hold me anyway.

  • @Charkatak

    All this info is good, but in my case the horizontal seat can't be adjusted as my car sear has manual controls. The front of the sit itself it a bit high and presses against the back of my knees and I feel uncomfortable trying to constantly readjust myself to get better blood circulation. I had a previous car where I could adjust everything as it was a power seat. I don't really know what to do...all I want is to lower the nose of the sit a bit

  • @leabiste6393

    Hey, what do I do if I'm really short, and to reach the pedals, I have to put the seat all the way forward to the point where my body almost touches the steering wheel?

  • @zeepzoop3659
    @zeepzoop365910 жыл бұрын

    Now one problem I've always though about with seat positioning is how close is too close for me. The thing is, I'm 5 feet tall, so I can properly press the pedals and reach the steering wheel, but the distance I put myself in to achieve that puts me awfully close to the steering wheel. My chief concern is actually being injured by the airbag on the steering wheel, since I have to be so close in order to properly drive it. So, what's the minimum distance I should keep my face from the steering wheel to prevent such a thing from occurring, and if that is too close, what are some ways I can still reach everything while keeping that safe distance?

    Yes and the reason why you should sit up straight is because your spine is actually the part of your body that can feel angular momentum. So if you sit stupidly like the 18 year old tuners in your local town (some of them almost lie backwards) your body wont be able to notice the changes correctly. All of the things the guy mentioned in this video, is exactly what you would learn at a racing track. Dunno if you forgot it but the headrest should be lifted so it covers the back of your head, in case of crash,or comfort if you are chilling :) oh and it looks stupid to see the back of the head of the person driving in front of you ;D Also about the height of your seat: it should be as low as you feel is comfortable in my opinion, especially if you do performance driving. This is to keep the center of mass positioned as low as possible in your car wich makes for better handling. Safety is more important of course, so if you feel like you have better control when sitting higher, go for it.

Your steering wheel is not close enough to you, move it closer as much as you can, and lower the seat as much as you can, check the first thing racing drivers like Tiff Needell or Chris Hariss (both of them are on a short side) do when they sit in the car for the first time

  • @Oekedoelekens

    @Oekedoelekens

    10 жыл бұрын

    Hi, I'm 195cm and most of the time, the only option is the put the seat the furthest back and hope for the best. In most cars there is enough room so you're knees won't hit the dashboard or the keys, but you'll have to get used to having the steering wheel between your legs. It's a bit more difficult getting in and out of the car as you have to go leg first, but it's not all that challenging and whilst driving there really is no difference as you always keep your legs apart; even when you have to break, you just move your foot to the middle, not your leg. As for cars, higher cars (like minivans) have generally a more straight up seating position and you'll be less likely to hit the steering wheel with your knees. I drive myself a Ford C-max, it's a manual and the steering wheel can go very high so I don't ever hit it with my knees, my previous car was a Ford Focus and it was also spatious enough. I've never driven an American car, but I can only imagine them being bigger then our cars, so they'll be just fine ;-] I don't know about Japanese cars, but I have once driven a Daewoo and that car was just to small, my knees were nearly in a 90 degree angle, it was very uncomfortable.

    I guess then that some people NEED to stare at the dash instead of looking through the windshield like they should. If anything, if you rely on your tach 100% of the time YOU are the joke. I'm no racecar driver, and I'm no expert, but driving is not about the A to B for me, it is about getting better behind the wheel, too bad some people cannot understand that.

  • @docstruthers
    @docstruthers9 жыл бұрын

    there IS an ideal distance from the wheel. to far is dangerous and to close can be fatal(airbag, etc.). the dude in the video is probably around 6' tall. visually, the tallest point of your dash/steering wheel should be BELOW the end of your hood, basically meaning if any interior components are blocking your view, you're a poop! :D

    do you think drifting should be taught in driving schools because it helps people know how to react when p[eople lose traction in the rain or snow

  • @ThePrestigeBeast

    nsx99x lmao hell no. drifting should not be taught at all. However, youre premise is correct. Im a car enthusiast so i have participated in plenty of activities that resulted in my car purposefully losing traction and i have experience in that kind of situation. As a result, i can handle it much more calmly and efficiently when i do lose traction. They shouldnt teach people to drift rather just how to correct lost traction.

    lukesprettycolors Honestly it ranges so much it would be hard to give you an estimate. In the last year nothing has gone wrong (knock on wood) thus $0. However the year prior I had to replace the tires, brakes, clutch, flywheel and driveshaft. Bad timing for sure.

    Huh, in my experience, I see the opposite; everybody sits WAY too close to the steering wheel like if they got into a head-on collision the airbag would push them back rather than cushion the impact. Close enough to drape more than just their wrist over the wheel which makes them look SOOO gangsta-cool and provides the same grip and control as an F1 driver! Some people even have their left hand at 2 and their right at 10, genius! In all seriousness, I almost wish car makers would design steering wheels to be F1-styled meaning the top center has a gap so the only place you can put your hands are at 9 and 3.

  • @TheOwenMajor

  • @DesuVR

    Owen Major F1 steering wheels don't turn even 360 degrees so crossing arms isn't an issue. Then again, the wheels don't turn as much as a normal car. Besides I was kinda joking about it anyway.
