Now that I have a new and slightly bigger car, I am required to look through irvm and orvms while reversing but mostly my car goes towards one side and not in a straight line. How can I learn to reverse in a straight line particularly when you reverse at 90 degree angle in a tight parking lot? Kindly guide me. Thank you 😊

    Recently got a Kia rio and I’m having a hard time getting comfortable. I’ve applied a lot of the tips in the video but still can’t get comfortable. When I’m close enough to the steering wheel to rest my wrist on it, I don’t have enough leg space and I’m feeling it. If I’m too far I feel like I’m stretching. I’m 5 11 so not extremely tall. I’ve only got 2 adjustments on the seat. And the steering wheel only goes up and down. Any advice/ tips would be greatly appreciated? By the way thanks for posting this video.

    I know that there can be a lot of anxiety when it comes to taking the test. But you're doing the right thing by watching videos and learning all you can about how to do different things. That shows you really want to learn, so I'm sure you'll get that test passed before too long. There are tons of great videos out there on driving skills and even on what to expect on the test. Keep learning, then practice what you learn, and I think your confidence will grow.

  • @HowSkills

    It’s a lot tougher when you’re tall to find a vehicle that has the interior room you need. Sometimes the right seat adjustment can make a big difference. Reclining the seat a notch or two more can give you some extra headroom, but it has to be at an angle that’s still comfortable and doesn’t feel awkward. Keep looking and don’t settle for a vehicle that’s not right for you.

  • @HowSkills

    @HowSkills

    3 жыл бұрын

    Can you adjust the angle of the back of the seat forward a little to get your wrists closer to the top of the steering wheel? If you can’t get it set where your wrists are exactly positioned on the wheel like you’d want, then get it as close as possible and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just try for as much arm extension as you can get.

  • @HowSkills

    More than likely it’s because your seat is too far away from it, causing you to reach forward more than you normally would. This would cause your shoulders to pull forward, as well as pull on your neck and upper back muscles.

    An easy way to remember what turn signal to use is. Always signal in the direction you will be turning the steering wheel. ( Steering the car to the right side is a right turn. ) This applies to both forward and reverse movement. 🚙😎

  • @HowSkills

    @HowSkills

    3 жыл бұрын

    It has felt a little uncomfortable to me at times, and I try to adjust my seat's position to where I'm just short of having to stretch my right foot to fully depress the gas pedal, should I need to. With the gas pedal in reach without having to stretch to use it, I feel like I'm able to move my foot over to the brake quickly when necessary. The pedal arrangement on this vehicle isn't as comfortable as I've experienced on other vehicles I've owned, but I've gotten used to it.

    I used to mainly drive vehicles with manual transmissions, and I still find myself putting my hand on the automatic gear selector as if I'm going to push the clutch down and change gears. Probably haven't driven one now in over 10 years, but I'm sure I could get in one and drive right away.

    The steering wheel looks tilted at an angle so that airbag will deploy and hit the face. Also AAA recommends placing thumbs on wheel and NOT as depicted at 3:45 because airbag force could "jam" the thumb joint.

    If I adjust my seat down I can’t see above my dash😭

    It's hard to get it just right sometimes, and if you can't see above your dash, then don't adjust that far down. Sometimes you have to compromise a little due to how your car is made and your height relative to your dash while you're sitting, so do what you can to find the best seat adjustments for you.

    Im giving it a thought after 6 years just because my foot is starting to pain in traffic. For 6 years i was driving with too far away sitting position and my legs were stretched out

    That can make a big difference if you're legs are completely stretched out. It's hard to be comfortable for very long in that position, so yeah, you might try experimenting with seat position to find something that works better for you.

    My car’s head restraint is too high for me and causes my head to bend forward leading to neck pain. Do you know how I might fix this? I already have my seat at its highest

  • @HowSkills

    Most head restraints are tilted forward as they are designed for safety more than comfort. You might try leaning your seat back a slight bit more to see if that helps, as long as it doesn't make it harder to see over the dash. This is a problem in some vehicles more than others, and can cause some real discomfort. Others have also tried a neck pillow/cushion to put behind them to add a little spacing between them and the head restraint. But that could negate some of the safety aspect of the restraint. The design is intended to decrease the distance your head and neck has to move in case of a collision, so tilting it forward decreases that distance and lessens the chance of serious injury.
