I love the blue roan
Beautiful horse. Wish you had done a closer side view.
I love this horse ❤️
Thank you for the help
Beautiful blue roan😍
"If I'm looking at the saddle from the side view like I am right now..." Yeah, same here.
Great tips about controlling the dancing. I stopped using a knot tie as it just seemed to make sense once the cinch buckle is locked. The only thing I can think of that would help with this video is to add stills to show do's and don'ts with saddle placement : level and not level. Maybe beginners don't know how to judge that.
Great video very informative, I think A knot of leathers more reliable that a metal stick as thick as spaghetti. I get what you're saying though but I think snaps and buckles are the weak points 1st to break

Taylor M Agreed for the most part. Some latigos don't have holes to put the buckle into or the cinch doesn't have a buckle. Even if I had that I'd prefer the "trail rider's knot" for the reason you said.

Yes. The knot is the original western rig for a saddle. Latigo should not have holes and a cinch shouldn't have a buckle.
thanks going to try it without the knot this weekend
I like the cinch release until they stop dancing
Great tips

Thanks!
You did a pretty good job, however you made no reference whatsoever to how tight the rear girth should be, and people need to know this. Please think this through and do not assume newbies can read your mind. Many might attempt to tighten up the rear in a similar fashion to the front... and be in for a surprise from an uncomfortable horse! Thank you for moving the horse before tightening the front cinch, since most videos of this nature are terrible at actually making sure the observer can see what is being done.
Nicely done, beautiful horse. I wish he would have given her a few more pets and interactions though. She was being so patient.
Nice basic instructional video. Thanks!
You need to film this from the side, so we can see what's going on. Just having a verbal instruction only provides a description, not a demonstration. I couldn't even listen through the whole thing.

She’s right you know.....the narrative is boring without the visual aid

If you are brand new to this visual is everything!
I had my doubts, but this one is the first one I've seen that is actually correct. Pulling the saddle blanket up into the gullet of the saddle is one of the things very few do.
I loved this video. Very helpful. I'm one of those that does the knot. It didn't look like you tightened up the girth enough.
Scott, if your horse keepings dancing around, walking forward or in a circle, do you go with her until she stops moving , then release the cinch? Or take off the saddle and get the hind, or do groundwork to get to the feet, so that your saddle doesn’t fall off with too much movement? My 13 year old horse has always been good to saddle until recently when I moved to a new barn. She is good to saddle but starts dancing around when I reach for the cinch. Thank you!😊

I guess Scott is too busy to answer a question on his Channel. Yes..stay with your horse... as soon as he stops moving that's when you release the pressure. Don't forget to praise. Break down the steps as much as possible. So.. if he starts moving when you reach for the cinch don't move on to the next step till he has no reaction. If your horse is not staying ground tied before you begin tacking up.. first work on that. If he's too reactive with the saddle on and tightening the cinch then perhaps it's best to go backwards a bit and do some groundwork, with a rope around his belly that way you have more control on the pressure and its easy to release quickly. Timing is everything
How do you teach the horse to be ground tied

Patience ..good timin. And lots of praise
Need to film from the side couldn't see a darn thing!
You needed to explain saddle pads and withers before placing saddle on horse, which is something new horseman don't think about. Also how many pads to use depending on activity. Please show pads and/or blankets. Also show side view and some close ups. You have good voice and nice horse.
When you pulled the girth the horse looker you like do you mind

Y e s. Because this horse has been yanked on and probably Because of an impatient rider. Fix that first and that's half the battle.
Hehe first comment 👌🏼
I thought this was a great video because I go to a horse camp and I only come on Saturday's so when I'm out of the camp then 1 week later I completely forget how to do the saddle and they need to help me but it's not my fault 😥😧😤😦
who came here from RDR2 while lookin at horses to buy?
Pay attention Tanya, don’t be “that girl”
He could of shown us close ups of the procedure for saddling instead he showed us from a distance. Stick to riding buddy
Can't see diddly squat. 👎
It's not a SILLY LITTLE KN O T young man. Real western rigs don't have a buckle on the cinch and holes in the Latigo. A real cinch only has a ring.. that's when you use the 'silly little knot'
