Great info. I trying to do all you are demoing but I use a Pad sometimes on the bridge and a hair band above the nut for some Light muting so the bass will not ring out so much .. How do you feel about those ? thanks

How do you adapt this technique to a 5 string bass? Do you move your 3rd and 4th fingers lower? Your technique is brilliant! !

Reat lesson, thank you! I'm curious though about the right hand muting: why would you not rest your thumb on the D string when playing on the G?

  • @Steazo046

If you do you will probably start to get harmonic ring from the E string. You can employ the lean your thumb back to mute the A string when you anchor your thumb on the D string but that won't keep the E string quiet (whenever your pluck any string you are going to get some harmonics from the other un-plucked and unmuted strings). If you play, get your bass and try it. Plug your bass to the amp and rest your thumb on the D string and pluck the G string . Then abruptly mute the G string with any one of your two plucking fingers . Do you hear the E string ringing a bit? If so that is another reason it's generally not a good Idea to anchor on the D when you want to pluck the G string. Anchoring on the D string to pluck the G string makes it too complicated and cumbersome to mute the E string.
