    I adopted my recuse husky to help me become healthy again. I went through a bad time in my life and became unhealthy for several years. Im happy to say its been 2 years now and im back to running and hiking 6 days out of the week again. Rocky is one of best decions I ever made for me and my family.

    I wouldn’t recommend a husky if you’re not active. Try and exercise mine up to 3 x a day (running/hiking/walking) also let him run free in the back once or twice. You’re going to have behavior issues if your husky isn’t getting the exercise he needs and all’s your doing is tug of war

    @@julialynch9758 when he gets aggressive about something take it away and give a correction this teaches him that the bad behavior doesn't let him keep the food or toys like he wants. Introduce toys back over time and food back at the next meal time/when your dog has been doing something else for a while. Repeat until the agression stops and continue afterwards to just pick things up that the dog has at least once or twice a day for seemingly no reason.

    Please don't use LASER pointers on your dogs. They are very bad for their psychological health, I have known a few dogs including my own that have suffered from this where they become obsessed with any sort of shadow, reflection or light as well as suffer from very high anxiety. I don't mean to be the negative Nancy here but I just want to help out.

    Awesome video super informational thanks! I normally have to walk about 2 & a half - 3 miles a day to tire out my 9 month old female pup. Even after the walk she still brings up her toys for me to play with her, so i think the amount of time required for exercise varies from husky to husky. I completely agree with you though dog parks are the best for socialization and to burn off energy.

    I take my 6 month old (50lb) he's a massive pup to the park for up to 4 hours of the day- he gets a morning hour walk and a 2-3 45 min walks through out the day I'm working from home currently. If I can do those mid day walks then depending I might send him to a day care for 3-4 hours where he can play with other dogs and then I take him to the park for 4 hours after work he typically gets home and passes out lol. But that's me! Everyone has a different lifestyle etc it's up to you to blend it with your new family member.

Whenever I tell people I want huskies they always wag the finger at me saying I need to be an athlete or something. honestly seems like there's a lot of normal activities to do with them like take them to the park and let them run. The way people make it sound, I was expecting hardcore sledding and hiking. I guess we are just that lazy that even normal, healthy levels of exercise seem like ToO MuCh.

    I just found your channel recently and while it's an old video, I find myself using dog parks somewhat regularly. I adopted a total goofball 1yr old husky. I have a physical disability and medical issues that limit my ability to walk a lot, but I find he pushes me to push myself a bit. My partner is more capable and does a 3 mile fast walk/jog at 4am and again at 730pm every day. I wish I could, but forearm crutches, walkers, and wheelchair being used depending on my day means that's a non starter for me. I go to dog park for at least an hour sometimes twice a day where he has some good friends and we go to a husky meet up every Sunday at another nearby dog park. I had been lucky if I could walk a block or two but have been up to about a mile to a mile and a half almost every day. We go for 15-20 minute walks a few times a day and lots of play time inside. He's very well behaved so pretty certain we're giving him the right level of activity. He knows my limits and will push me a little but has been very protective if I push to far and can't walk at all the next day. Drives to places they haven't been or walks in new parks are also great. Mental stimulus is almost as important as the physical with huskies. I find getting out, driving aimlessly for an hour gets me out and the dog gets completely exhausted from trying to figure out what we're doing. Putting the windows down and running errands eith him and he is almost as tired after as when he wrestles his friend during every football game.

I disagree with the guy who said you have e to be an a time person.i think you have to have the time to interact and get to know your pup to have a well behaved dog. I walk mine, but I also have in.

    I take my 9 month old Siberian to the dog park 2xs a day and on a couple walks. He wakes up at 5am so I take him to the park between 7 and 9 am when most people are there. I take him back out at noon then back to the park at 8 or 9m and if I can get close to home I take him out for a quick break before then like maybe 6 pm. I let him tug on rope if we're inside or just wrestle with him. The one bad thing about the dog park is people that freak out unless another Siberian is present...most people just like the look of the breed, but don't understand them. My current pup is the second I've had, I had one as a teen and that was 30 years ago, but I've been ready since my girls were born. These dogs are awesome and easy to deal with if YOU are patient and understanding...by the way; I live in an apartment and people wonder why they don't hear him. As long as you keep them exercising and don't let them get bored; you might not hear them make noise unless they hear sirens or another Husky, mine just made his first noises with another Siberian present because he just plays with other dogs that want to play with him big/small.

    I have also found that when I take my husky to a dog park a lot of other dog owners are extremely cautious of my pup, even though he is extremely sociable and friendly. I think husky’s may just have a bad rep for being dominant/aggressive towards other dogs. Which is way Ive socialised my husky from a young age.

    Love your video! I have to advise against laser pointers though. Those are really bad for the dog's mind. A dog can become obsessed and start perceiving light and shadows as objects. When I was a kid we had a German Shepherd and he went absolutely nuts when we played with him with a laser. He loved it and the first few times were really fun, but after a while he started slamming his nose into the ground trying to catch shadows. He would pound and pound at the ground and would not stop even when his nose was bleeding. We stopped the laser play after that, but he would still become obsessed with lights and shadows for the rest of his life. We had to be really careful not to let him see it so he wouldn't hurt himself. It got better after a couple years, but he never completely stopped trying to catch shadows.

    The thing about using a laser pointer is you have to let the dog “catch” the laser. Not being able to catch what they chase is what usually messes with them. With my dog, whenever we use a laser pointer (we only use it occasionally) we always lead the laser to a treat we placed towards the end of the chase. Its basically to trick the dog into thinking she “caught” the laser.

    I brought a 20m long lead for my husky to attach to her harness when outdoor ‘off leash training’ this is purely used as husky’s like to think it’s a game when/if they run off so the closer you get to catching them the quicker they run. With 20m of lead behind them you can easily catch them if they do try to run off. Also a tip we use is to start to run in the other direction if they keep looking at you and are not chasing something they soon realise and start to chase you! Best of luck with your puppy 🐶

    Thank you for your reply 🙂 It makes me smile 😊 It's recorded ! I'll do my best for my future dog(s) Only twice a day ? I always thought huskies requires near 2 or 3 hours of exercices... but surely because your dogs must be between good hands and have wonderful cares ! I really loves huskies (and other primitive/spitzs dogs) for their difference with other breeds ( their "Wild look"), but even if I thinking about getting one of these in a long time, I'm seriously about working on my own mind, because they can be strong headed ! Thank you for your reply, it helped me a lot ❤️👍🏽 Your huskies are beautiful ❤️❤️

    We've recently got a husky (4 months old) and we live in UAE. The weather is generally hot here so we give her a walk twice a day (one in the morning and at night when its chillier) after her potty. Also within the day, but in a shady area. We also play with her tug toy inside the house. Should this exercise be enough? We plan on taking her on parks during the weekdays when our schedule allows us.

    I’m considering trying to get a husky, I run track every weekday in the winter and spring so I am concerned about being too tired to excerise the dog, how long does it take you to excerise your dog?

  • @callmeaoife5676

    @callmeaoife5676

    4 жыл бұрын

    raymondz999 huskies should get 2 miles a day at the minimum, also consider proper containment because they are escape artists, more than the average dog, they are incredibly difficult to train because they can know all sorts of commands, sit, paw, lay down, stay, etc. inside, but once outside it is a completely different story and none of the “rules” apply to them. Also cat’s and small animals aren’t the best idea with huskies, but as you can see not impossible, as long as they get adequate exercise, but always a danger and should never be left alone with small creatures.

    Nooooo. that's a terrible story :( I'm so sorry to hear. You need to make sure the harnesses are on extra tight. If you want, practice with each husky one at a time teaching them over the weeks to walk properly by your side. then when both are proficient in this, take them on walks together. Hope this helps!

    How do you keep your husky from jumping the fence. I rescued mine and she jumps fences with ease. I tried everything even electric fences. She even jumps while I am out there with her. She listens well when we are inside but outside she has a mind of her own.

  • @SixtyFormula

    @SixtyFormula

    5 жыл бұрын

    How tall is your current fence? Teaching your dog to listen to you outside is an entire new process than listening inside. It takes a lot of practice. Try simple tricks outside after your dog has done plenty of exercise. You can start training them from here and eventually move on to teaching them not to jump the fence.

    they're super fun and amazing and agile but be very careful because they are never 100% offleash and will never be. Instinct is too strong so I recommend you play fetch in a fenced area because the second they see a bird or another creature they will run to get them. Its instinct and you can't override it, so better safe than sorry.

    Since she doesn't want a pup and you do, my advice is to just wait until you're not living with her anymore to get a pup yourself. That way: you're responsible buying it's food and cleaning it up after it, plus she doesn't have a dog in her house since she doesn't want one, and double-plus your pup gets to live in a home where it's wanted. It's a win-win-win!! :) Great question, thanks for watching!

    I see you guys let your doggos off the leash in public spaces. We were always, by everybody I can think of, told to always keep them on the leash because huskies have a tendency to run and not come back . Is staying near by something you trained them to do or is it something they always did from the beginning?

  • @SixtyFormula

    @SixtyFormula

    5 жыл бұрын

    it's something I trained them to do. I didn't train my huskies to be off leash until they were near 1 year old. That is why B-spears is not off-leashed trained yet. He JUST turned one, and Hila is almost 2.

    how dirty are we talking? Just some dust so her fur looks a bit brown or like mud? If it is just some dust or sand, brush them out and wipe them down with a damp cloth. If it is mud, find a different place to walk your dog because you can only wash huskies up to once a month or else they get skin problems because they aren't oily. If you have to wash because of a skunk or another huge issue always brush them out before making them take a bath because the undercoat traps lots of water and can give them a skin rash.

    I wouldn’t suggest a Siberian Husky if you aren’t an active person. Typically they need to run and be with someone doing physical activity in order for them to be happy and fulfilled dogs. A Husky that free roams in a backyard tends to develop their independent nature which in turns makes them stubborn and “hard to handle”. In my opinion the best way to keep a Husky happy and healthy is by doing physical activity with their pack leaders aka hiking, running, jogging, and of course sledding just like they were bred to do. In my mind there are no tips and tricks it’s either you exercise them daily or they become the stubborn, unresponsive Husky everyone is used to seeing. Also if you must be lazy use a flirt pole rather than lasers as those will save you from the psychological/behavioral problems you will cause your Husky if you use a laser.
