Over all the propagation went well it was during the aftercare that I realized they need to stay moist to grow really wel! I hope this video can help you or inspire you to propagate your string of turtles and the care tips at the end help!

    The fat leaves are just how they store water. When they deflate, water. Like string of pearls having the window close when they want water. Same thing. It is really fat because of the humidity but they will be less fat in ambient humidity. It is normal and healthy.

    This was so great. I learned a lot. Mostly, don’t wait to water until you can bend the leaves like a taco which I’ve heard from others. Thanks for your hard work.

    My SoT which I keep in a pot in normal room humidity (around 55~70% where i live) but I do keep the soil moist and they also have such thick leaves. I also have them in a terrarium jar I keep at my office desk with just fluorescent light from the ceilling and they also grow very quickly!

    I had a string that I’ve turned into a 11 string, 3-4in long plant, that has since stalled. The leaves are small, plump and faded like how yours were after the prop box. Initially, I had it on dirt (that would dry out quickly) for the longest-nothing, then tried sphagnum moss, and that did it for me! It was only a little tedious carefully removing the roots from the moss. If it works on perlite, I’d say try that!

    I have about 8 string of turtles plants because they propagate so easily for me. It's the variagated string of hearts that always rots on me no matter what. Any suggestions? I've tried soil, water and moss. I do exactly the same as my string is turtles and after a few weeks rotten. ☹️

    My Zebrina's are like that. They don't want to be in soil. Long. So first they grow roots in any media, then they become massive. One day I will see some dead leaves, check the pot and the initial stem with roots is dead. I take the spaghetti construct and put a bit back in the soil, it will root and do the same thing again. I assume you need tons of perlite and loose soil. The only time they keep their roots is outside, on the balcony in summer, full sun during a heat wave. Sure, as a shade lover the plant should not even survive that...but as usual they just became massive - WITH roots.

    maybe the contact lense thing could be a way to focus the sunlight on thr leaves harshly so it can get rid of the excess water

    How are you watering when you move to terra cotta pot? Bottom or top watering? I usually use a succulent squirt bottle with the curved tip and top water, but very easy to get root rot especially if keeping soil moist. Anyone with any suggestions on watering would be helpful.

    What's the general vibe towards peat moss in the States? Here in the UK there's basically a huge movement to ban it, both domestically and commercially, due to the effects it has on the Scottish peatlands which are an ancient and non-renewable resource. I just notice that many US gardening and plants KZreadrs don't mention it, so I'm curious if it's not so much of a problem over there?

  • @xenidus

    @xenidus

    It's a definite problem, but the US lags in environmental protection. We like to wait until it's too late before trying to protect our natural world. With that said I do know there are some companies that have a sustainable moss harvesting ethos. Not many do so though.

    @@TechplantChannel Fair enough! I do use a small amount of sphagnum moss just because it's SO GOOD and I think maybe a bit more sustainable than the deeper level peat itself? Might just be kidding myself to feel less bad about harnessing its juicy goodness. Great videos as always :)

    Hey Tech, could you try a Pothos experiment?, I want to know if you can root a Pothos vine still attached to the mother plant, like you can do with spider plant babies, reason I'm asking is I want to try on my pothos that has large leaves on the top but I don't want to cut it off in single leafs and propagate I want the last 16 inches of vine to root while still attached then cut it off and pot it up

  • @M0NST3RBUNN3H

    @M0NST3RBUNN3H

    Жыл бұрын

    You can! If has free hanging Vines set up a pot next to it with soil and pull the vine on top of the pot with one or two of the aerial roots touching the soil, pin it down with garden staples or a bobby pin etc and make sure the soil stays damp and it should root! If it's on a moss pole then you're in luck cause if you've kept it damp chances are it's already rooted so you just cut the pole and you have a new pothos

    I’ve never seen that odd contact looking growth before. I almost killed mine last year and I’m propagating some cuttings from the same one. How often do you water? For me it seems like less is more. Although I have high humidity where I’m from so that could be a contributing factor.

    Don't think there is one. Just depends how much space you have and how much you have to prop. I've had success with lunchbox size tupperware and even small takeaway containers.
