I found this plants in my yard and I thought it was a weed, then I visit to a garden center and I saw the same plants and the bees love it. I'm gonna follow this steps so I can have more flower next year, so that the bees and butterfly will enjoy it.

I think it might have been from this video about two years ago that I learned about propagating sedums. I took your method and refined it a bit. The stems are very much like the roots so it made sense to me to simply cut the stems, dispose of the leaves, and immediately put the stems into soil in bunches. Result? They root and grow every time. Even at the end of the season this still works. So long as it is before the stems dry out and die, so after the flowering has been and gone, simply cut back all the stems to close to ground level, and all these stems which would otherwise go to waste can make dozens of new plants. Last year I made nearly a hundred from just four parent plants. Thank you for starting me off on my gardening interest!

I’ve noticed that from taking stem cuttings this year, almost every axial bud grew a new plant with roots. If the stems are going to die back anyway I’m tempted to cut all the stems, lay them horizontal and see how many grow from that.

My Mom had prizewinning gardens when I was growing up (nearly sixty years ago) and had a large sedum she told us was a ‘balloon plant.’ She taught us to gently pinch and compress a nice fat leaf, then gently work the membrane loose, being careful not to nick or tear it. Once freed, you could blow into it and it would inflate. Because of the succulent moisture, if the opening was pinched shut, it would stay inflated for awhile. Time consuming, but fun!

I've watched several videos from England and now Ireland on propagating the Autumn Joy Sedum. One Englishman lets all the stems dry up each year and then separates the roots the next year. What a waste..... Here's my AMERICAN Quick way to Propagate this plant. As soon as the flowers turn brown. Either cut or snap the branches off at ground level. The branches are quite brittle and break easily. I don't remove leaves. Then I take 5 branches I've removed and stick them immediately into the ground about two to three inches deep. I just push them into the soil. All within a couple inches of one another. A cluster of 5 stems, over and over. Next year, they will ALL come up and those five branches are a fair sized plant already. Yes, the branches die off. But not before they have rooted into the soil. You can also take one stem, cut it into several pieces. And stick each piece into the ground. They root fast, cold, heat or whatever. I live in a very Hot area of the USA. Yet I can have 2 feet of snow or more in Winter. I remove all the branches in Sept./Oct. shove them into the ground right away and have tons of new plants each Spring. No special soil...... at all. A few plants this year, is 50 plants next year.

A friend of mine gave me a cutting last summer, & it Sat on my porch for about a week,(I forgot about it) when I remembered it, I wrapped a WET paper towel around it & set it in an empty container. it Sat outside in the container all winter, & when I was going to throw it out, I had unwrapped the paper towel from around the base & there was tiny little green growth, so I put it into some regular soil, & they're doing AMAZING now!!!
