I'm growing several Lophophera species. I'm a long time gardener but first time with cacti. Apparently many cacti need high humidity for the first several months of their life. It seems counter intuitive as Lophophera cacti and others come from the driest places on the planet however in the natural habitat it is only dry part of the year. At other times Lophophera can be under water literally during the wet season. I've struggled with mould and algae because of the high moisture required but when I found the sweet spot they do well although they grow slowly. At 2 months of age my cacti are about the size of the eraser on a pencil and look like little jelly beans with some sparse hair on their heads. Real cute!
Summer Rayne I just love how simplified your videos are for novice, laypeople like myself. It empowers me w/ the confidence to know I can do this myself and be successful. Thank you! :)

I’ve been an avid gardener for over forty years, but now am disabled and can’t get up and down and back and forth to my outside gardens. So I’ve greatly increased my cacti and succulents as my indoor garden. I chose portulaca because with care they’ll bloom beautifully much of the year. Three weeks!!! Thanks to the advice on fast germination. Besides, I’ve loved them since I was a toddler watching my mom in her prize winning gardens!
Sandy makes it look so easy!
Sandy's greenhouse is inspiring. Thanks for showing us around.

I loved this video along with the video tour of his nursery. I actually just yesterday ordered both a Stephanie erecta caudix and some astrophytum seeds! It's my first time trying to grow cacti from seed but after seeing this I am excited to try!
The cacti are beautiful, but that caudex plant had my attention the whole time! Those leaves look amazing

I live in Utah and planted some astrophytums from seed. I follow a bunch of people that grow them in other counties but none of the spoke English. I'm so happy you posted this video!

I grow them in Utah too. I have found that they are susceptible to sunburn in our higher altitude and drier climate. I put them out in the summer, but I have to be very careful, they are the most susceptible to burning when I am introducing them to outdoor conditions as well. I have noticed that they grow really quick when I graft them.

I'm growing Astrophytums this year from seed. They are doing very well for me. I'm from Florida. I post exotic plant videos and a variety of other things too.
Keep going brother Well done
Good information on seedling culture. I’ve never grown cacti from seed. I’ve only grown propagated them from cuttings , some as large as five feet tall. I let the cut end dry and callus and then pot the cutting in a sandy, gritty mix or simply stick it in the ground in its permanent location.
Oh my gosh summer!! I really love these Cacti and really need these little guys and girls for my collection lol Thank you so much for sharing!! These are stunning! I love all different cacti!😍
I’m not really a cacti person but these astrophytum are stunning 🤩
Wow, what a nice mixture. I should try his mix; I have all those soil amendments, too. I do have about 7 Astrophytum Mysriostigmas growing right now. They are about 20 days old but I can’t wait until they start taking shape!

Great information!!!
I’m about to start doing it myself from seeds.
I was not prepared for “assisted plant fornication” 😳
Nice 😊
Ok I didn't like cacti before that video. They are so cute!!!!
Very cool guy 😊👍
They are on record as one of the 3 slowest growing species of cacti they are one of the only one's that grows slower than lophophora so patience is a virtue i thought i was doing something wrong when mine were only half the size of my lophophora at 3 months they were still very small but its natural for them
After 3 years of taking care of them, my astrophytums are still in good conditions 😍😘
That is a lot of Astrophytums. I am propagating cacti as well, Gymnocalycium and Mamillaria, I wish to have that beautiful Astrophytums. I just started collecting them last November of 2019.

Hi, great video. This is just what I needed because I have a box of cactus seeds waiting in my mailbox right now with plenty of Astropytum in it. Any extra advice on growing these would be really appreciated. How long should I leave them covered? I was thinking of trying the “Fleischer Method” on these. But his were so beautiful and well rooted I might have to change my approach to cactus seed starting! Thanks again for the great video!
This video made me buy Super Kabuto and Astro Myriostigma seeds! I really want to see that blob too with my own eyes! Good thing, seeds are very affordable in my country. Thanks for sharing this video.

I tried to grow cactus from seed this year, they were doing ok at first I actually had little babies pop up but then things took a turn...I just wasn’t sure about care...light, water on such tiny plants and they all turned yellow and then just died. Would love to try again, maybe propagate outside over the summer.
I got some opuntia speeds a few years ago and currently have two seedlings, They’re about 1 year old and 10cm in height.
