For Older Subaru's then the years above in the video description use the following method. Open driver's door. Turn ignition key to 'On' Press and hold programming button in ( The programming button is under dashboard behind the kick panel by the driver's left knee, left of the steering column. If you can't locate it, it might still be tucked up and taped to the wiring harness higher up in that same general area. The button is recessed in a plastic ring) After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. DO NOT release Programming button Press lock button (Left side) on the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time. Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off. Then the remote should work

@Michael Vallejo your car has a different system
@swampkid02
3 жыл бұрын
@Michael Vallejo this worked on an older Forester and Outback with the code alarm system, which I am pretty certain is your system also: 1)open driver's door 2)turn ignition to ON position 3)Press and hold the emergency override - located underneath the driver's side dash, below and to the right of the fuse access cover (coin tray) - for about 15 seconds. The door locks will cycle three times indicating that it is in program mode. 4)Press the LOCK button on he transmitter. The door locks will cycle once. If you have the security upgrade, the system will chirp 3 times in step 3 and once in step 4. 5)Repeat step 4 for any additional transmitters. 6)Exit the programming mode by releasing the programming button.

I have a 2003 Subaru Forester and am trying to program the new key fob I recently bought. I am unable to find the programming button. Is it possible for you to video the location?

@@carolginzburg4614I'm assuming you solved this problem long ago but the method shown in the video worked perfectly on my friends 04 outback.
Thanks! The dealer was going to call in someone who has worked on older Subaru foresters to program fob after their mechanic couldn't. After watching this video earlier I said I would do it myself. So I did! 64 and still learning, thanks for the video help!,❤️
You taking the time to make this video in such a direct and easy to understand way has made a potentially terrible situation for me into an easy to fix and quickly over with situation. Thank you for doing this man really it is so rare to catch a break from the kindness of others and your consideration to make this video is a perfect example of that. You rule homie!
Hey, thank you! I've struggled for the better part of a year to program my remote and your directions were so concise and accurate!! I now have a black and grey remote, and a multi-color remote hookup, so elated!! Thanks a million! Happy Holidays!!
Worked perfectly for my 2003 Baja on the first try. This is a very well made video with clear and to the point instructions with no extra fluff. Thank you!

I purchased the teardrop remote for my 04 OB wagon and watched several other videos with no luck. They all wanted me to push the lock and unlock button the amount of times for the 8 digit code. I gave this video a try and it worked just like you show. It did take a couple of tries as it seems I wasn’t pushing down hard enough on the remote button for the car to recognize it. Works great now. Thanks.
as an FYI: I purchased a teardrop remote for a 2000 Outback. I tried to do the programming on the other video (which is the tear drop remote, but for a newer Outback). In fact, it worked when I used THESE instructions but with the teardrop remote. Thank you so much for this! Saved $95 programming fee at the Subaru dealer. Yes! Happy Holidays to me!

This worked perfectly! I had a key fob we bought a couple of years ago that would not program with the directions it came with so we just gave up and put it away. I just lost my only other key fob, so I followed these steps and programmed the one I had still sitting here and it works!! THANK YOU!

Thank you! I was having a hard time getting the timing on the key-turning right, and was about to send my remote back to the place from which I bought it. Watched your video, went outside, got it! (On the fifth try, but still...)
Don't usually comment on these things, but your instructions were the only ones that worked. Thank you very much.
This was so easy to follow, and programmed in less than 5 minutes!! Thanks!
I just got my fobs from ebay. I had them both programmed within a minute thanks to this video. Thanks for saving me tons of money!

i have 99 legacy outback. wasn't working for me until i read elsewhere i needed to have my foot on the brake. Worked like a charm after that just as in the video. programmed 2 fobs. thanks for the video.
great thanks i been a month working the key. Now after 3 minutes FOB remote is good to go. thumbs up for great description and esp the live demo!!
Thank you! Despite the procedure being a little tricky, following your steps enabled me to successfully program a replacement in a very short time and probably save my wallet from the dealer.
I had to remove my fuse to the keyless entry system as I didn't have a programmed fob and the alarm was in activate mode. Learned from your video that I have to unlock all doors including the hatch so that the alarm wouldn't go off and then I was able to program it. Thanks a bunch for the great video.
I programed a new Dorman fob for my 2002 Forester and it worked like a charm! Thank you!
Works really well!! It took me some time to realize you have to turn it really fast from completely off to almost starting!! Thank you 🙏

OMG Thank You. Idk What Exactly Was different Following Your Instructions, But After Endless days and hours I've Spent Trying To Figure Out if it was me or something about my car specifications I had wrong. I finally did it! Ever since my battery died on me almost 2 months ago, I've had anti theft issues. So I hope this is the end with manual locking doors and not feeling safe about leaving my car alone anymore. Thank you.
Awesome video. Super easy and worked first try. I used a fob from a 02 outback and programmed to my 04 legacy. 😎
Thanks for this. I knew about the 10x thing, but apparently, I was turning the key back and forth way too slow. Your video solved my problem.
Thanks dude. The owners manual and the programming card didn't wanna work. Watched your video and programmed my 03 Forester within 30 seconds!

TheDIYGuyDOTnet do you know, is it possible to unpair a remote from a vehicle? My next door neighbor just gave me his spare remote, but now after pairing with my car, it also unlocks his car still...lol
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet
6 жыл бұрын
LOL. Yes.. There are four programming spots. I'm guessing you want to un-pair from his car.. he would need to program the remote or remotes he still has to take up the 4 slots and push out the one you now have.. So if he only has one remote for his car he will need to program it into his car four times. If he has two remotes he will need to program each remote in two times to take up the four slots. You may not have to program his remote 4 times as if the remote he gave you is in the 4 slot it would get pushed out by programming his working remote one time.
Great video!!! Followed the video and worked for both of my Key Fobs... Dealership wanted over 100.00 to do this for a 2002. Thank you!

Thanks! Just got this to work on my 2004 Forester X with a remote from a 2003 Outback
Thanks saved me money was able to do it myself after 2 tries
Just to add a bit of detail. When he says it must be done "very quickly" that is correct. From other sources, I found that the process can't take more than 45 seconds from the time you open and close the door to the last key turn. (The ten key turns must be done in 15 seconds.) I was failing and failing at this because I was taking too long from when I open & closed the door until I finished the ten key turns. As soon as I did it within 45 seconds, the programming mode worked exactly as the video shows. Good luck!

Outstanding - worked perfectly on my 2003 Outback ! Crazy way to program a remote. Just glad I didn't sprain my wrist turning ig key on/off quickly to get to the first horn beep to then open & close driver door and push FOB button for two horn beeps etc. Dilly dilly and happy holidays !

Thank you so much! I had a fob that worked but when I opened the door, my alarm would go off. Reprogramming my existing old fob after putting fresh battery in it and doing this, fixed the problem. Easier if you don’t have a bunch of keys attached while turning. 2003 Outback H6 ll bean.
I was going too slowly...twist it fast, 2x per second. Worked well!
Awesome worked for my moms 2004 Forrester 🎉🎉🎉 thank youuu
