I do have a question for you, if have any knowledge about this matter I would truly appreciate your response!.... Can I purchase a used key fob from another nissan altima (with the same code on the back and the same year of course) and program that to my car?... The EZ car installer is supposed to be able to install up to 4 keys but I don't know if I can use a used key fob or if it must be brand new???

after 3 fob failures over time with 1 fob left, i changed the battery in my fob because it was weak. after battery was changed it no longer worked. i am getting the run around by tom keys. i was also told that because i have a aftermarket remote, there is nothing they could do. i have been using these keys over 8 years. now it is an issue. they said i was EXTREMELY lucky they worked. that was there last message to me. zero help

I'm glad I ran across your comments, if you can't get a reply on here after most others have for problems then that is very telling of this company. I will look elsewhere for a replacement option for my altima.

I bought the Simple Key Replacement Kit and I’m trying to set it up but I have tried 3 times and have gotten the Error 4 and Error 5 twice. Now it has drained my battery and my car won’t crank. I’m still excited to get this product and hopefully I can get it working properly.

Update: I realized why my battery drained, it was user error. I forgot to turn off the a/c and radio while I set it up. After I got a battery booster jump start from my lady and let my car run for a little to charge the battery back up. After it charged and I turned everything off I was able to set it up and it works well now! Great product, I would recommend it to others!

No, you need a key that works to start your vehicle. Then use Tom's Key Company to help you make a spare second key.

My Nissan fob doesn’t lock or unlock the doors, but the trunk opens and the car auto start button works. Will this help with the locking/unlocking aspect?

If no fobs are working, can just buying the programmer fix my issue?! A dead battery for so long caused all fobs to stop communicating….

Hi, I did program the new key, but the original problematic one didn't and the red security light with the key symbol keeps blinking even with the car off and the device unplugged. Now I'm afraid of starting the process again and messing the new key. (Original one was dead even with new batteries but could start the car by holding it to start button).

So what does Error Code 4 and Code 5 mean? I have tried a couple times to program the fob(s). The first time I forgot to program the old FOB and the New FOB worked. The second time I got Error 5, the third time I got Error 4. The third both FOBs stopped working. Trial and error, I got the old FOB working (still not sure how I managed. Fourth attempt, neither FOB worked. I was able to get the old FOB working again. I called your customer service number and waited for 30 minutes (the estimate was 14 to 18 minutes). I'm going to try again when the weather cools a bit. Really wish you guys picked up the phone.

Great question. Nissan programming starts by erasing all fobs. So if programming gets stopped in the middle your original fob will not work. If you don't have any working key fobs, you need to get a locksmith or dealership to make a new one for you. You can use our kit to make a spare one, but just have one working key to do that

The car DID NOT come with a remote start, hence the aftermarket unit. I asked the question because I once went to a service that did keys cheaper than a dealer, but he warned that my after market starter might need to be reprogrammed once he programmed a new Nissan key to the car. In short, he said that programming new keys would wipe out any "keys" to the car and this might or might not include the aftermarket remote start and its fob. Do you have any idea on how your device would effect that separate fob that can start the car?

Is this safe to use if you don’t have a key pairing slot? I have a 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 with no pairing slot. In your video there is no mention of this at all, however the instructions state to repackage and rerun if you do not have a pairing slot. I watched your entire video and see nothing regarding this. Sorry, the only Nissan Rogue we have are turn key start ignition. Sounds like you have push button start ignition. Wish we could help you, but we don't have a push button start Rogue solution.

No - you need one working key. Then you can use this to make a spare. It will be way cheaper to get a spare made before losing your only key and calling a locksmith.

Hi, the replacement key will not add features that were not originally included in your key. Only original remote features will work, regardless of the buttons included in the Keyless Entry Remote. This key does not add remote features that your vehicle did not have before.

Update: I took a chance and ordered this product to have a replacement Key for my 2016 Nissan Altima S 2.5L and the process could not have gone more smoothly! I carefully watched this tutorial video several times and read the instruction manual prior to setup to be absolutely sure about the process. I was hesitant at first from reading about some people having issues with their keys not working, but I can assure you that if you follow the instructions step by step, you will successfully program your new key. One difference that I noticed in the process was that the programmer asked me to step on the brake and start the car as shown in Step 8 of the user guide, whereas this step was not done in the video. I followed the instructions of the programmer and manual and started the car, then proceeded to Step 9 to turn the engine off. Everything went smoothly, and all of the functions of my original OEM Nissan key fob, such as being able to open the doors and trunk with the touch buttons, and of course starting the engine work as they should. Thank you so much to Tom's Key Company for this amazing product! Very rarely do you see a product work this well, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase! I’ve looked at other KZread’s videos of other programmers and people say after like 3 weeks you have to program the fob again. Will this happen with this one ?

No. This is a quality product that will last as long as you own the vehicle. You will need to change the fob battery every few years. Recently we had a customer report back that they were needing to change the battery every few months - turns out there was a problem with it. We sent a replacement fob and everything is great for that customer. We are here to help if you run into problems.

I have 2011 Nissan Altima with only new fob needs be programed car alarm stays on can't do anything what can I do to only one fob no original fob and stop alarm I disconnected battery soon I put cable back on alarm again how can i fix this

how am I supposed to program my new one if my old one is dead? It wont even turn on those lights on the fob itself for me

I’m having an issue: when I plug the EZ-Installer into the OBD port I get the error message “BCM Error” and a hexagon with an exclamation mark in the center? What does this mean and how do I move forward from here?

Hi Tyler. You need to have one working key to use this to make a spare. You probably need to get a locksmith or car dealership to make one key. If they want to charge a bunch for a 2nd, we can help you get a spare

the compatibility lookup table does not list my Nissan Altima 2012 (box stated that it was compatible). I then went to the website to find the most up-to-date vehicle compatibility list. could not find a compatibility list on the site

All of the FOBs that I got with my Nissan Altima 2013 stopped working all at once. Replaced the batteries and still nothing. I am not sure why this happened but it is obviously not the FOBs that are broken but something in the vehicle itself puked. I was told that troubleshooting it would cost me hundreds of dollars to fix this. (Nissan Service Center) I will order your kit but if the issue is with the vehicle and not the FOB. I suspect this will fail. We will see.

As long as your vehicle came from the factory with remote start, then the remote start button on this key will work Only original vehicle remote functions will work. This product can not add new features to the vehicle.

Does this still work if you have the original fob but the original fob is completely dead- like even with new batteries it's still completely dead

Can it start the engine if you hold the fob right up to the start button? (Read in owner manual about how to start car if you have a fob with dead batteries). If it starts the engine, this will work for you

They told me you need a working original fob for it to work.

Doubt I’ll get an answer but the box the new fob comes in specifically says “only FCC ID ending in 4014 will work with simple key. The one I was sent in the box is X32-NSSSG010. Does this mean the one that came with the programming device won’t work?

FCC ID is specific to the manufacturer. So the original Nissan has one ending 4014. Because the aftermarket fob is from a different manufacturer (not Nissan OEM) it has a different FCC ID X32-.... But it is compatible with the OEM 4014. So it will work.

4 buttons or 5 buttons. Some vehicles have remote start. You should match the same number of buttons as you existing key fob

Our son purchased a 2017 Altima which came with a non-remote start version of the key fob. His car has remote start functionality from the factory. If we purchase a key fob that includes the remote start button, can we perform the key fob programming procedure to include remote start, or will the dealer have to be involved?

Hello Steven, first, you must have one working key that starts the vehicle to use this programmer to make a spare. Also, pls note that only original remote features will work, regardless of the buttons included in the Keyless Entry Remote. Nissan is voltage sensitive, you should have the car battery on a 2 amp charger to avoid any issues

Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing. Yes, you need to make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and will not die during programming as a weak battery may cause problems. Turn off HVAC, lights, radio, and anything drawing power, and take appropriate steps to keep the vehicle battery at full power.
