Ditto. After what seems like countless attempts, I have finally done a color/basecoat that looks WET. It’s looks like polished clearcoat and it’s just the color coat, almost zero orange peel. It’s all about gun setup as far as air pressure, then distance will dictate either a dry coat if too far and/or fast, with the other extreme being lots of runs from getting too slowly and too closely. I finally got it and I hope it wasn’t a fluke. It couldn’t be though because the whole bumper looks that good. It’s jet black, and looks like a bottomless black water lake. I was very proud, until my pride allowed me to let my guard down and end up with some runs underneath the bumper . Got cocky. This job requires real deal discipline. ANY lapse in judgement can really cost you, besides the money down the drain, there’s your sanity hours and hours and hours of reprepping the part and even then it’s either gotta cure before sanding or you can use a chemical stripper.
Practice panels helps a ton. Cheap used fenders, hoods and trunk lids off of Craigslist, OfferUp etc. Damaged ones are best because you can practice body work and paint it as many times as you want over weeks or months to keep your skills sharp.

I always love watching these videos it motivates me to try and paint a car but I realize it’s not as easy as you make it look due to your experience
Nice you're the best 👑
Thanks for sharing your techniques Brian. Super helpful!
@paintsociety. Love the gun tips in this video as I typically get runs on bumpers. Can you do a video on preventing orange peel?
Always good to see a paint society video. I gain more confidence with each new vid.
Wiper cowls are tough too. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks Brian: Great explanation on preventing runs. I learn something on every time I watch.
thank you. I thoroughly enjoy learning from you and Mario
Thanks for all of these tips and your time. It's much appreciated, sir
I use a "bumper gun" and it works well on these bumpers. Thanks again Brian!
Very nice job Brian! Good informative video.
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge, Master.
I’m going to start an automotive collision program and watching your vids are already very helpful ! Also, giving me a good idea what to expect once I start my course! Great channel!!
Thanks a lot Brian! Your videos helped me to understand the role of gun settings for good atomisation. When I got that, results are getting better each time. Besides it is soooo relaxing to watch you laying down the clear so smooth 😇 its magic!
Always taking notes❤
I think you’re right with the BMW that must be the hardest and now I have confidence because I did mine and now I have to paint new fenders on a TJ Jeep inside and out off the vehicle of course
Great Video Bro!!!
That finished front cover looked great on the car. Great job Brian.
Excellent content, as always!
Great info as always. Thanks for sharing !!
Hi Brian, (I’m spraying one of my son’s motorbikes right now and this particular video has really helped!) - Thanks again buddy! 👍😊🇬🇧
Love :), your the best teacher. Best regards from Poland
Great lesson. Thank you
i agree with alot of these guys your channel is excellent for learning
Its better to spray in the hidden areas and the edges first. Prevents overspray landing on fresh clear on the flat sections if you have bad airflow in the booth also, helps prevent accidental runs when you are spraying the bumper.
Very informative 👍🏻👍🏻 Love your videos
u are great teacher❤ after i watched r videos on how to set up a paint gun n techniques i must say i got a professional results during my first paint job thank u very much
Nice detailed instructions 😊👍
I paint signs for a living so I am fortunate enough not to have to worry about tricky spots like this. However, these spots remind me of having to gelcoat tricky fiberglass molds when I was in that industry. Since watching these videos though I've become a much better painter and appreciate every episode.
Great video, very helpful 👍🏿
Oooh boy. I saw the BMW bumper and brought me back to redoing my X5 bumper last summer. used, had damage, and was white, needing to be resprayed to match my car. I'll tell you what, those panel stands like you've got are a game changer vs. the folding stand I only had available to me. Looks like it helps a TON.
I love your videos. I am currently doing the rear fascia and bumper cover for my 2014 Corvette. You had mentioned the stand you were using and had some suggestions for a more reasonably priced version. I would be interested in getting one after seeing your video. Thanks again.
That’s some great tips, thanks a bunch pal
Great video and very informative. 👍
Another great video!
Hey Brian, I love KZread. I can find ANYTHING I need help with. I got into rattle can painting since I was a youngster. Painted my bicycles with just topcoat. Really glad I found you. I've learned so much from you, I can't tell you how many times I've gone back to your videos to double check on how to do something. You should start a Basics of Painting paid school, besides YT. DON'T OVER THINK IT, IT'S JUST PAINT !!! Cool slogan. Some of the videos out there are sometimes more confusing, because they are not good teachers and I can understand you. Thanks for your help Brian. I may even start my own little business. Have A Great Easter Holiday!!! See Ya On The Tube. OK, I'll shut up now.

I have learned so much here and want to do more. I have my garage available as a space to paint and am able to heat it some but not to the level usually recommended. What tips do you have for painting in colder weather and higher humidity? I live in a northern state.
Good video Brian …. Cheers 👍
Great video as always, would like to see more with HVLP single adjustment guns used for single stage base and clear coating..

Brian, great video, funny I did also white bumper cover for my car 2 weeks...due to colour matching I actually used a 'rattle can' with the correct colour code I then did a clear 2K also in a rattle can, I would have to say it came out great...maybe could have got it a little better after seeing this video. (for me colour matching paint is my main issue..hence the rattle cans). regards Russel
Great video Brian! Still rocking the C2 cap? I’m still on the C1 getting used to the gun before I transition over. Any tips on making the jump to it?
I was recently doing a helmet out in some kind of coldish weather, and was really trying to make sure the bottom edge got cleared. I have zero runs on the surface, finish looks amazing even before any wet sanding, but I got a couple drips off the sharp bottom edge. Possible to sand them flat and buff out? What's the best way to clean that up when it happens? Thanks, your videos have been amazing.
Thanks for more great tips 🎨 👍👊

Hello, great video series you have. I have been recently watching nearly every video you have on figuring how to properly adjust my spray gun. I seem to have an issue with it laying down the clearcoat extremely heavy and will run like crazy on the first pass. Any ideas what the issue is and how I can solve it. I have followed your instructions and seems to not help.
such good advice, I spray cabinets and furniture/ I have done a few car parts too. My challenge is the intersections on the face of cabinets where the it over laps. usually hit two passes in one direction then feather in short at the intersections. fan pattern change each way and changing fan size for different areas...a good challenge in a house on a ladder with helper directing the light. and air hose..
Awesome video Brian and thanks for sharing those tips with us Brian I won’t lie I get plenty of runs in those areas before but what you said today is a green light for those areas 🤣 Brian I really enjoyed that video much love ❤️ buddy 👍👍🙏🙏👌👌💯💯💯

What size tip are you using? I'm new to painting and purchased a master pro 44. Using a 1.3 tip to spray clear but I continue to get runs. Good exercise for my arms with all the sanding I've been doing!
Hi brian, looks good there! have you much use of the impa bumper paint that gives the texture etc onto a grey bumper? im doing this atm but not painted yet! also the chinese db1 have you ever used that? thanks for the vids! its awesome to watch!

Thanks Brian. I do struggle at times with clearcoat, mainly because I try putting down too much on the first coat. I appreciate the tips and tricks. Be safe, thanks for all that you do.
Brian, On the Tekna Clearcoat gun, what pressure would you recommend setting the gauge at the gun? I think tech support said around 30psi, but that seems kinda high to me
You are the coolest Paint Master on YT!!!! Your tips are unpayable!! What do u think of the IWATA WS 400 EVO Clear Gen.1 for Clearcoat? I have one sata 4000rp 1.2 and one Iwata ws 400 clear gen.1 with 1,3HD nozzle...but i havent used the iwata yet cuz its my newest gun.
Nice video good to see you....
Brian, thank you for the treasure trove of information especially the tips &tricks; also the contact information for items you use in your shop"!! be well; Patrick
Bumper color looked abit different from hood and fenders. It's not plastic, i did the same one. Its the application of pearls. I learned the hard way. It will match once you get the spray technique of pearl. Applying it, Slow, fast, #of coats, distance from panels these all changes the way it will look at the end. I got a gun setup just for pearls now and I don't change settings or pressure. Now my color matches are very good. So I don't have an excuse to say plastics turn out different when sprayed. This is for pearls not metallics. Just something I wanted to share from my experience as I tried to fine tune things. Sometimes one and half coat matches better than 2 coats. These manipulations give better match , almost unnoticeable.
Hi Briant, I want to paint my bumper, it is new plastic, I saw the steps but what about the Primer, that is the same for the other parts of the car, like the Dupli Color Primer Filler after the adhesive promotor?
Hello! A big thanks! for all the good videos you post. I'm going to put acrylic filler on a bumper. Can I use both HVLP or LVLP Paint Gun for this job? If I set the Paint Gun as it says on the Acryl filler can. Thanks! From Tommy Bertilsson from Sweden
I have a SATA 5500 with a 1.4 tip I that I bought for my truck restoration project. Should I buy a 1.2 or 1.3 tip set for this gun for clear or just buy another complete gun for clear?
Hi Brian, so if you use a sealer you don't need to use a primer?
Great videos! Always learn a ton. I’ve always treated the trigger like an on off switch. You mentioned throttling the trigger. Do you always do that? Or only in difficult spots?
@PaintSociety
Жыл бұрын
Never really full throttle unless it’s a straight away
How about a LVLP Devilbiss SLG-620 for the amateur? Anything I need to be careful with when using that gun?
i thaught that fluid control is just like a needle limited in a airbrush where is limits the trigger travel . is it the same with spray guns . what do you really mean when you say the fluid is quater turn from wide open ? does that mean we squeeze the trigger to the point where the fluid control stops the trigger or u just like to wind that little bit in and
I'd love some opinions on paint. I'm doing a 69 beetle myself right now, and have done the undercoat layers in 2 pack primer. I originally was going to do 2 pack base coat with clear, but have heard specifically for a Beetle that 2 pack can crack around the door hinges and that I should go acrylic, and that I should also skip clear coats because it only lasts 5-10 years before it starts to go milky and gross. Thoughts? What would you (or anyone reading) recommend?
For newbies like me please explain in more detail what a Sealer is. what would I buy and what do I do to it before I spray it? thanks for sharing!

I have been refinishing steel bike frames and forks . I seem to struggle with the CC running. There are areas that I don't think I get close enough to because of the geometry of the tubes. Just primed a frame this afternoon and when it comes time to clear I'm going to try some of these techniques.

@ᴛᴇxᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴏɴ ᴛᴇʟᴇɢʀᴀᴍ@PaintSociety Is this for real?
This method can help to counter orange peel also?
Brian thank you for this video. Can u explain, how properly spray a clearcoat on a vertical surfaces without orange peel?. Is it possible? I tried many times, but it is really hard, to get the right result.
What size tip are you using for clear?
Good video
Wow, Brain painting high quality cars......what a change. But more seriously, I use a ANI R160-Q with a 1.2 tip for these hard to get places. So far, so good. My Devilbiss would definitely give me a run or two.
Brian u are a great teacher I have learned so much from you may God continue to give u strength to inspire us thanks bro
Can you use this same gun to lay top paint? if so what the PSI that you will use with this gun to lay top paint?
Curious why didn't you go in a horizontal pattern on spraying the lower grille section of the bumper instead of spraying vertical in spurts?
Another great lesson thanks for your time, did you put the link up for the adjustable stand?

What's a good affordable gun to use on my own project
So what if you have only one gun. Is there enough time in between base and clear to clean the gun
My biggest trouble spot is the edges. I tend to load them up and will sometimes get a run/drip on the lip of the hood or at the bottom of a door along the edge.
Id suggest closing the fluid closed shut and opened one and a half turns den going slowler on yur second coat to prevent runs completely watching yur coats laying down ofcorse

If your are new to paint. Sata rp won’t work well. If it is working for you. Don’t change it. The dv1 clear is great for beginners though
